I wouldn't keep myself up worrying about this stuff if I was you. McCain is going to get the nomination. I have resigned myself to that fact. I watched the debates, and Romney did awful. McCain kept him on the defensive.
It ended with all of them being asked if Reagan would have supported their candidacy, in their opinions. Romney gave the absolute worse answer of the bunch. He was hurried, and choppy, and seemed self-serving and insincere.
McCain gave a bullshit answer as well, but there's something about his demeanor that makes him sound sincere even when he is full of shit.
Huckabee actually gave the best answer of the group. In fact, he was the best one in the entire debate. His answer was that it would be presumptious of him to claim that Reagan would have supported him, but the important thing was, he supported Reagan. He is good, as a speaker and on the stump. He would win it all in a walk if he had more money and if it weren't for McCain's star power.
Romney overall gave good answers, but like I said, he seemed defensive, even when he relayed his strong points. The strain is getting to him, I think. It's almost like he knows he is more than likely going to lose.
McCain came across to me as smug and self-righteous, and even arrogant. I can see through him, but I'm afraid not too many people can. At least, not enough of them can to make a difference.
Oh well, you have to admit, in a way it will be good to finally have a black or a woman president.

I'll probably keep it up if he runs against Hillary, but Obama-I don't know, I'll probably drop it then. Since he was endorsed by Ted Kennedy, it's hard to imagine which of the two would be the lesser of two evils. Kennedy endorsing Obama speaks volumes about the kind of president Kennedy assumes he would be-the one he could probably influence and control the easiest is what I'm thinking.

No, McCain is running because he thinks he's some kind of national savior of the country, that he can "reach across the aisle" and "get things done". Then Democrats and Republicans will all love each other, they'll all find "common ground" to solve the nations problems, and we'll all go riding off into the sunset singing Happy Trails. And there will never be heard a disparaging word. The Congress will be filled with good and kind-hearted men and women who will always put aside their differences for the good of the nation.
John McCain will then go down in history as the man who brought about this new fluffy bunny level of public discourse.
This is all in John McCain's mind, of course, what will end up on his ass will be the bite marks of reality.
The fun part will be watching him fall to pieces when the media turns on him once he is running against a Democrat.
That might cause more people to rally around him though, if he handles it right. It all depends on what they say about him. If they come up with some credible account of how he broke under interrogation as a North Vietnamese prisoner, of how he gave up actionable intelligence, of how he received special treatment as a result, etc., it might not matter how he reacts.
On the other hand, if he ends up blowing his stack and/or making outrageous statements, I can see him at some point drooling all over himself and whimpering by the time the election results are in.
I can even see Hillary or Obama treating him in a way that would imply that he is somebody who is deserving more of pity, which would really make him crazy.
Who knows what he would do in a debate once they start playing with his head. Cry, curse, shout, his eyes and veins on his head bulging out, etc. All after starting out hugging them and making little kissy faces at them.

What I have heard is that he sold out to the North Vietnamese so totally that they let him live off the prison grounds in his own house and gave him a teenage girl as a "wife" to keep him company. I don't know if this is true but I have heard that there are men who were POW's at the same time as he was who were eye witnesses and have said that they will come forward if he ever looks like he will become president.
You would think they would do that now, before he gets the nomination. Why wait until he is the Republican standard bearer to do that? If they would come out now, it might help Romney win. Of course, they might not like Romney either, but I can't imagine that many Vietnam veterans, especially former POWs, would prefer a Democrat be elected.
Also, why would they even want him to stay in the Senate, regardless of him running for president? Something about all this don't add up. I can believe the part about him breaking under torture, etc., but a lot of the other stuff sounds exaggerated. I think if he had been so blatantly and obviously that traitorous, it would have come out well before now.
Another thing he could be attacked on, when you stop to think about it, with all the concerns about the economy and the mortgages and such, is his involvement with the Keating Five-I think I have the number right.
Why are people giving this guy such an easy pass? Romney should hit him hard with that. Here is a guy that was involved in the worse Savings And Loan debacle in history, and he's running for President during a time of one of the worse credit crunches in a good many years, and nobody even mentions it. It's unfathomable.
