I always thought he was over-rated. His "7 words" routine amounted to shouting dirty words to make people laugh.

George Carlin, the icon of stand-up comedy and a counter-culture phenomenon, died last night, June 22, 2008. He was the inspiration for an article in our Humor-and-Satire section that has generated the most-number of visits (4,520 hits as of to date and counting). Our staff, writers and columnists wish to convey to Mr. Carlin’s family our deepest sympathy, respect and condolences. May his soul rest in peace and find eternal repose in our Almighty Father’s mansion with many rooms.

Gravatar The whole point of the seven words routine was to point out the difference between one of the words-tits-to all the other words, which were far more objectionable. It's been a good while since I've heard it, but that's what stands out to me. Like that old worn out saying goes, it's not so much what he said, it's how he said it.
