Gravatar There is a way out. We can move to atomic energy and other alternative forms of energy, and in the meantime drill for, and HOARD, as much oil as we possibly can. For starters, we reduce significantly our dependance on foreign oil.

Next comes the good part. Eventually, oil will be the new gold, and will provide some backing to our currency. As long as we stockpile it, as much as we possibly can, we have that much more stability for our currency.

Hey, we stockpile gold and used it for years as a base for our currency, why not oil?

Gravatar I dunno about fear in financial circles at the prospect of B Hussein Obama in the White House. It scares me to death in my own backyard.

Gravatar Pagan,

There is some merit in the idea of backing a currency with a broad base of commodities. In Heinlein's novel "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" the Bank of Hong Kong - Luna issued currency and backed it with everything from gold to deuterium.
