You hit the nail on the head....very well written!
A relentless push towards energy independence should be a major part of the John McCain's Presidential agenda as it is tied so strongly with our country's economic strength and security..........
It should be made clear that tapping into our country's vast resources, while immediately beneficial, would merely be a bridge to a not too distant future when this country is fueled by "greener" alternatives.

Excellently written piece. I would add that approximately 65% of oil cost goes to the oil provider. If that oil provider was the US Treasury (Florida/ANWAR, etc.), then the US treasury would reap the benefits. At Just $100/bbl oil at 2 million barrels a day you get $130 million per day. I think you could tie the profits to some handout (the Washington way), like social security. If all of the new revenue went to social security you fix it's solvency problems. Lucky that those come in about 10 years. The same amount of time it would take by Sen. Schumer's account to get ANWAR online.

Wouldn't mind if those a large % of those profits went specifically towards R&D of alternative energy sources (wind, solar, hydrogen, bio fuel, nuclear, cold fusion, etc.) - that compromise should quiet the environmentalists....
