Pride, eh? Interesting. Because actually, I sorta thought it smacked of embarrassment. I'm mortified when my non-member spouse hears this foolishness. (D&C 121:43)
And FWIW, the reason the missionary was wrong is that he attributed the original KJV of the scripture to Joseph Smith. Frankly, I believe that anyone who raises a hand in class and promulgates fabricated doctrine should have to pay 12 percent tithing.

Well, you've got the missionary in me puzzled: 1 Tim. 6:10 says, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: ...." I don't have a Joseph Smith translation here to check if he corrected Paul's statement--but I've never heard that he did.
It disturbs me that your attitude is one of sharply looking out for error, instead of realizing we are all on a journey, all learning as we go, and all in different places on our journey. Keeping the doctrine pure is very important--which is why error should be gently corrected in classes--but we should also receive the intent of the speakers and teachers by the Spirit, rather than judge them harshly for not being as "informed" as we are.
This particular blog smacks of pride--thinking ill of your ward family members for not being your idea of perfect is a pretty slippery slope.
