Apparently there is a market for them. From the number of jerks running loose it would appear they lose their appeal rather quickly and are, like Christmas kittens and puppies, dumped unceremoniously on the street. Must be a way to re-hab this situation, perhaps someone will start an SPCJ? Not me, I dumped a jerk years ago (sorry folks) and was careful not to acquire another one.
