The library has become the BIGGEST rush for us in this season of little to no income. Love that I can order various media from all over Dallas, then drive 1/2 mile to pick them up. Books on CD, movies for rent but for FREE!! Books galore in so many shapes and sizes and colors, and on so many topics! Today we were delighted to find the sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on CD just in time for our road trip tomorrow. Thrilling!

The library's summer reading program brings some nice treats for free as well if you do enough reading (which we do...and more!!). Dallas Children's Theater tickets, Rangers' Game tickets, free drinks at Sonic...a lot of luxuries we wouldn't otherwise enjoy just now.

Prepping and planting a garden. We have little seedlings in tiny pots around the deck, but look forward to getting them in the ground. Nicolas' pumpkin plant is looking pretty good.

Random free find in my own backyard: I spotted three little tomato plants in the middle of the lawn, pushing up and growing. Dug 'em up, and potted them. They appear to be thriving. Go figure. We've never grown tomatoes in the three summers we've lived here, and have no indication anyone else ever did...no clue where they came from, but I am hoping they produce some nice fruit!!

When I saw big Hershey's Chocolate bars on major sale the other day, I grabbed a few (including DARK for the parents of the family!): we will make smores on the grill some evening soon.

Eating "a la fresco" (though it's never that classy in reality around here) at the picnic table that Daddy built. Eating supper outside always seems more fun!

Sitting on our deck and watching the fat red-breasted robins strut through the yard as if they own the place, stopping here and there to gobble up a juicy worm.

Swimming in our little neighborhood pool.

Starting a new Geography program which mainly consists of a whole lotta' singing about a whole lotta' states and countries. Josiah sung himself to sleep tonight with "Raleigh, North Carolina!"

Despite a lot of talk lately about the things we cannot do b/c of our financial situation, we are very encouraged by the things we are able to enjoy. The little things mean more than they used to, that's for certain. There is more joy in the types of fun that I believe you refer to as "simple joys"!!

Here's a book you might like: A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg. She tells a story about how the recipe came to be and then gives the recipe. She has a blog called Orangette. As I was reading the book last night, it made me think of you. I got the Sharper your Knife at the library yesterday also.

Tricia, I love your enthusiasm! We pretty much live like this (even with income) and so I can appreciate your resourcefulness. The library is a HUGE thrill for us, too, so I can relate to that. I hope your garden grows well!

Robin, I will look for that book! It sounds very interesting and you are very sweet to think of me!
