You said it. All the focus on carbon emissions is absurd when there are so many more important environmental issues that face mankind. When politics mix with science, bad decisions are always made. A prime example: Incinerating trash in California was made illegal because of "emissions". So instead we put our trash in landfills where it releases methane and toxic gases. Then we install inefficient systems to capture that gas and burn it off (releasing emissions). Some landfills are equipped with facilities to capture that gas and convert the methane into methanol or electricity. Which sounds good, but actually is extremely ineffective compared with the energy released by just burning the trash in the first place. Which, by the way is what a lot of Europe is currently doing with some awesome pollution control devices. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten that almost 50% of our trash is now recycled. Wow, that's great right? Hmmm, lets see. We use extra trash trucks to pick up the recyclable materials, and extra sorting lines to separate out the aluminum, plastic, etc. Then we use big diesel engine machines to make it into big bales which are then placed on a diesel barge and shipped over to China. Then a lot of emissions are released and energy is used to melt it down and reform it into little plastic gizmos which are then barged back across the ocean. Wow, what a great and logical way to save our environment and conserve our natural resources!
