The letter in the Guardian that David Hirsh was responding to was written in response to something that had been reported in Ha'aretz thus: Simon McDonald, told a meeting at Bar Ilan University: "We had success in May" in overturning the AUT boycott of two Israeli universities. He is also reported to have described the AUT as taken over by a "highly motivated minority" who captured it to further their agenda.

That's what I wanted to check. And I still do.

Ah thanks. So when David Hirsh says that "The campaign for an academic boycott of Israel has misrepresented the words of the British ambassador to Israel at the Bar-Ilan conference" he means that they were accurately quoting from Ha'aretz. Whether the ambassador's words amounted to "intervention" is really a matter of opinion but it ill behoves Dr Hirsh to accuse others of misrepresentation; particularly in this case. Still at least he refrained from the antisemitic abuse he likes to chuck around sometimes. Perhaps there were too many goyim among the signers of the first letter so Dr Hirsh accorded them the respect he denies to Jewish opponents of Israel.

Mind you, I must say that I don't agree that an ambassador stating the government's position, or indeed intervening in the affairs of an independent organisation to further the government's agenda is of itself wrong. I just don't agree with the government's pro-zionist agenda. And for a British ambassador to share a platform with such a comprehensively exposed liar like Dershowitz is downright embarrassing. He'll be sharing a platform with Jonathan Sacks next!

Stand me next to Jeffrey Archer and I'll look and sound like riff raff but like Dershowitz, Jeffrey Archer is an utter fraud and like Dershowitz he has been exposed as such.
