Jews sans frontieres

Gravatar And the Evening Standard said 'There was a small counter-demonstration held by the Jews for Justice for Palestinians'. Should be something in the Harrow Times.

Even though the numbers were small, we made an impact, especially as our JfJfP banner was there, which no doubt spoilt the scenery for them. There they were, flocking like sheep to their little ghetto-party where they could wallow in their own self-righteous, in denial, victimhood and paranoia, only to have to face an opposition outside. On coming out, one woman was apparently upset to have to see our banner! I'm sure it dampened her fun!

Paul Usiskin's presence says it all about where Peace Now stand on this. It should change its name.

It was hard getting large numbers as we had only found out a couple of days before and a lot of us went on the march the previous day. Some were too tired and couldn't face going up to Kenton.

Channel 4 reported this demo but unlike the BBC, also reported on the Jewish presence on the march the day before, making it clear Jews are not as one on this, which is just what the Israeli Embasy and its mouthpiece, the BoDs, don't want.

Gravatar You are losing support Elfy.. There are more Jewish Zionists that anti-Zionists. In fact you are reduced to a handful.

Elf, Fink and Rosen.

Your support has completely collapsed as people realise how wrong you are.

Gravatar On "Democracy Now" this morning they had the Refusenik Israeli pilot on again. He said that he's disgusted by the kneejerk Zionism of diaspora Jews. He thinks that instead of worshipping God they prefer to worship Israel. This would explain their anger at your picket--Zionism has transcended mere nationalism and has become a belief system with them.

Gravatar I've been noticing a sizable increase in the number of posts on various blogs telling/reminding people that "There never was a country called Palestine" and further more, the Palestinians were expelled from Jordan (followed by the most fucked up, false history of mandate era Palestine that I have ever seen.) Has anyone else noticed this?

Gravatar Israel’s wanton bombing of Lebanese civilians is an unequivocal war crime

States are obliged to protect Lebanon, militarily if necessary, lest international law become a travesty

If the Security Council won’t act, the General Assembly can and must

Cairo, Sunday 23 July 2006

EMERGENCY ACTION: LEBANON

CALL FOR A GENERAL STRIKE

Public demonstrations are essential, but even more is demanded of us. The system has to be disrupted completely if there is to be any chance of minimizing the casualties of Israel's coming ground invasion and re-occupation of South Lebanon.

We call on all workers, all management, all professions, all unions and syndicates, and all Arabs to begin immediately a general strike.

see : http://brusselstribunal.org/

Gravatar Can imagine the press furore if Muslim demonstrators had acted like that. Well done to the JFJFP people that braved it.

Gravatar Channel 4 News last night reported on this quite well, intercutting between the Zionist rally and interviews with Jewish protesters on the Stop the War demonstration in London the day before - and questioning whether the Board of Deputies' views on Israel were as representative of British Jews as they claim.

The BBC was filthy, hugely positive coverage given to the rally, long sympathetic interviews with those organising and attending. They presented the whole thing as the voice of the "British Jewish community". And the presenter was beaming all the way through, at one point gesturing to the crowd behind her saying "They seem glad to see us!" - yeah, wonder why...

Gravatar I actually think pro-Israeli opinion is more isolated in the world than it has been at any time I remember: even more than 1987 or 1982. That's why these people have to be so hysterical. When people are getting away with it, they're not hysterical, they're smug.

Gravatar They're truly on the ropes now in propaganda terms and popular support. The bad news is, they still have the media - see Bat above - and they have the powerful governments on their side. Some will get demoralised by that. The campaign against zionism is growing though. Some zionist guy said in a comment once that "winning the argument is what counts." The way I see after being silenced for so long, having the argument is something of a victory and we have 58 years of unswerving pro-zionist propaganda to overturn.

Gravatar As this post about the pro-Israel demo makes clear, British Jews are getting their self-rightious anger direct from the top:

Chief Rabbi Jonathan sacks said
"Israel is fighting today in Lebanon because six years ago it withdrew from Lebanon."

"Israel is fighting today in Gaza because one year ago it withdrew from Gaza. And Israel discovered the terrible truth spoken by the late Mother Theresa - that no good deed goes unpunished."

Hopefully it is not just the poster who feels this is going too far for the majority of British Jewry.

It is a disgraceful statement for an alleged man of peace and cloth; imagine a Catholic or Muslim leader sanctioning, nay, praising, the breaking of Geneva conventions or UN resolutions in this way.

Gravatar The most surreal remark anyone made to me when I was on the picket came from a man who said to me: "I'm for peace and against terror, but I'd like to smash your face in." I just couldn't believe he'd said this to me, but he really did...I just replied "What a wonderful peacenik you are!"

Deborah

Gravatar Anonyme - I had hoped that it was clear that not all British Jews take their cue from the Chief Rabbi.

Gravatar Kudos to the two Deborahs for their integrity and their courage.
I was recently reading about Spinoza who was expelled from his Jewish community for his moral integrity but refused to buckle.
The question is - how does this madness get reproduced in such communities (it would help if the distortive label 'Diaspora' were removed from the lexicon).

Gravatar I hear Gandhi was a mean drunk as well. He'd start a bar brawl at the drop of a hat--and he would drop the hat. Just kidding, of course! Still, there are plenty of peaceniks who completely lose it when they find their Holy Grail of "The Just War." We have so many people here in the U.S. who complain, "Well, I supported Afghanistan but I don't support Iraq." Except that the results will be the same.

Gravatar Bat 020, it was I who was interviewed by Channel 4 and said the BoDs and Chief Rabbi act as extensions of the Israeli Embassy!

Had I seen the BBC coverage I would have complained - they did not cover the march.

By the way, now the new editor of the Jewish Chronicle is under attack by the 'community' for being balanced. The BoDs aren't happy, while other ring-leaders include Adrian Cohen (of Engage? Is it the same one?) and the Joyless Wolfe who tried to get someone sacked from their job for policital reasons.

Gravatar "With such short notice and many being away on holiday" is that the best you can do! They weren't on holiday the day before.

"A small counter demonstration" - 5 women! There were more ice cream sellers on site than "demonstrators"!

By the way I was at the Cantanta demo last November and "Jews against Zionism" had 3 people there - Roland Rance and 2 others - I have pictures if you need them but hardly succesful in terms of numbers!

It reminds me of the way Arab leaders lied to their people in 1967 telling them they were on the verge of victory.

JfJfP lost all respect and any credibilty they had after their Times advert and Jews against Zionsim never had the respect in the first place.

The message at Sunday's rally was "Yes to peace, no to terror"
The message at Saturday's rally was "We're all Hizbollah" and appeasement with terrorism.

Gravatar

Sacks: "...And Israel discovered the terrible truth spoken by the late Mother Theresa - that no good deed goes unpunished."
Mother Teresa? Claire Booth Luce, actually, but I suppose invoking Teresa serves better as an incantation to keep a guily conscience at bay. Maybe he'll whip out that bogus MLK letter next.

Gravatar some SWP and Respect people are calling for "Victory to Hezbollah"

what do you think?

Gravatar Deborah,
you should have said -

"Me too, so come ahead!"

- and the only reason he said it to you Deborah, is because you're a lassie and nothing but a big fearty -
- it's all he is good for Deborah, picking on women, you're too good for the likes of him pal!

Gravatar "And Israel discovered the terrible truth spoken by the late Mother Theresa - that no good deed goes unpunished."

What the fuck is he on about? Mother Theresa never said that. Looney.

Gravatar "Israel’s wanton bombing of Lebanese civilians is an unequivocal war crime"

by two nations, sanprejuges, Israel and mine - the U.S., where the weapons are made, from whence they are shipped, and by whose taxes they are paid for. (And I suspect their usage is also demonstrated by the U.S. military, though I might be wrong, as I understand that Israel has a very talented military.)

Gravatar "The most surreal remark anyone made to me when I was on the picket came from a man who said to me: "I'm for peace and against terror, but I'd like to smash your face in." I just couldn't believe he'd said this to me,"

Deborah, believe it. They speak much like the Christian fundamentalists who are trying to deny evolution here in the states. They say things like "Jesus loves you and wants you to accept him, but if you don't, you'll burn in hell." Very scary worldview. Thank you many, many times over for your courage.

Gravatar Stifler (good name, honest even) - there were three from JAZ to start with at the cantata. They were leafletting when the ZF/Betar people started getting in everyone's faces. The three were joined by others from JAZ and by Respect people and passers by including local Jews.

You're right about the short notice thing though. I should have mentioned the intimadation and the difficulty travelling to Kenton.

Regarding credibility, it's the truth of the message that counts, not the number of people telling the truth.

But thanks for owning up to the intimidation though.

Gravatar Doug - I'd need to see a link to where Respect or the SWP are saying "victory to Hizbollah."
