The Israelis used to be just as buggy about Palestinian Flags. During the First Intifada they would be hung from electric lines and the IDF would force Palestinians to take them down, sometimes electrocuting their human robots. So the IDF put out a contract for extendable poles to remove the flags with. Israeli defense analyst Martin van Creveld wrote about this, "One doesn't know whether to laugh or cry." Eventually of course they just gave up trying to suppress the flag.
