Unless they (Amazon) have fixed the significant lack of IO available on the platform, they are going to have some problems with this.
I hope EDB put some extremely firm (read tight, expensive lawyer speak) into the contract that guarantees a certain level of tps that will be available to the clients of the advanced server product.

At OmniTI, we have a customer who has made extensive use of the EC2 system using MySQL and it's basic replication system. So far it has worked pretty well, though they idea that if EC2 does go down for some reason, they have lost all thier data doesn't sit well with us. For mostly read data, it isn't too hard to make an off EC2 backup, but the more write traffic you have, the more difficult this is to achieve.
