Hi Libby,
As a catholic, I would like to give my opinion and maybe clarify some things. For a while now, there have been many in the church who are pushing for reform. Things from priests being able to marry to permission to use birth control. The meaning of a "conservative" pope means this reformation will not happen under his watch. It really doesn't have a lot to do about politics but only the continuity of the doctrines that have been the standards in the past.
