Well, Libby, I see the growth marks on the door (at least I think they're growth marks). If you don't mind me asking, how tall did you wind up?
I lived in a lot of houses, and every now and then, when I get a chance, I go back and take pictures of them. Out of the thirteen buildings where I lived, only one is no longer standing. So that's a lot of pictures.
What you say about domestic abuse makes sense to me. I have known many women (no men) who have gone through what your describing, and every one of them had a deflated ego. One was a former student, who showed up in class wearing shades in a feeble attempt to cover her blackened eyes. I alerted the college's counseling center, and they found a shelter for her to go to--to no avail. She had already decided to go back to her husband. I couldn't persuade her to change her mind, for she was now back in her husband's good graces.
I've found out the hard way that police do not protect women as vigorously as one might think. And because those who are abused are often violent (actually counterviolent), women's shelters aren't the safest place to be either.
Excellent post.

x-i ended up average, 5'4". i can deal with that...i'd hate to be taller, don't know why, i just would! i'm just amazed that that man and his wife left those on the door, they said they didn't paint over them, because it was part of the history of the house!!

I can halfway sorta understand women who feel trapped and are afraid to leave, but I have NEVER understood a woman who rationalizes abuse by saying it proves that he loves her. Duh.

So now you and President Harding (at least his secretary) are now part of the house. Cool.

That movie always reminds me that the trailer is sometimes the best part.
The scene that comes back to me the most is when Danny Devito is using that phone booth in the middle of nowhere.
I am also amazed that they left the height marks on the door, how cool are they?

when we were babies mom put our footprints in cement at the 509 1/2 North street house. Everytime I go home, I have to go by that house and see if they are still there, Mine is, but my brothers has eroded away to the point of only a tiny indentation. Why do i do this, wish I knew.
