Libby, I think you need a bloke to take your mind off what's going on between your ex and the slut. Some 20yr old Brad Pitt lookalike should do the trick. You don't have to live with hin .. just kick him out in the mnorning.

I think it's not just midlife crisis for some reason a man is measured on his ability to "get" younger woman. That to
"still have it" is where the bar is set. Women with younger men tend be labeled rather unflatteringly. Unfair. Yes. But still true.
sj--you're right...if a woman is younger than the guy she's going out with "eeeewwww, look at that...that's nasty!!" :-(

I don't have much experience with middle-age crazy. I'm single, myself, so there's no one to really run off with. And I don't really gravitate towards 20-somethings. As for my friends, they're either still married, or divorced in their twenties and thirties. One of them took a wife who was five yers his junior, but nowhere close to twenty.
I'd always heard of men doing this, and I'd seen it a few times with my parents' generation.
When I was a twenty-something, I did get hit on by a lot of older women, though (late-thirties, forties). So I assumed it was a phenomenon that affected people of a certain age regardless of gender.
I definitely think it is a personality disorder that is equal for men and women. Some men chase after younger girls to prove to themselves they are still wanted and some women do the same just with men of various ages for similar reasons. "I am getting up there...is this it?"
And Lib, it is right around our age that I see it most often. I think I went through it, perhaps Rookie as well but at the end of the day, reality sets in and you realize that you just trade some problems for others in the long run. The sad part is that by that time, you often can't pick up the pieces even if you want to.

I think that when men hit mid life they start to wonder if they "still have it" and can still attract women. What better test (in their minds) than to see if they can attract a young woman! And then, of course, it feeds their vanity (not all men are like this, but definitely a lot of them are) to be seen with a pretty young thing on their arm.Thankfully my husband dealt with his mid life crisis by buying himself a sporty red pickup instead of picking up a sporty redhead...
