Oh libby the house is so cute. What a wonderful thing to go back after 20 years to see it. I bet it was hard. Thanks for being a great blogging buddy. I'm glad sears agreed to lower your interest rate, 28% is just crazy.
Take care.

What a lovely home! Its so charming!
I called Citibank about lowering my rate and they out right refused... granted its only 14% but still... It was more the principle of the thing than anything as i really dont even use that card anymore. I got it when I was 19 so its a bit sentimental.
I always pay off my credit card bills. I once got into debt to the point of having to ask family for a loan to bail myself out... once that was paid off... I decided not to go down that path again! I am thankful I have been able to be debt free!

That house looks great.
Weird, I have been late a few and far between times, but I can't get anybody to lower my interest rates either.
Some years back we couldn't afford 2 cards cuz of the rate and stopped paying on them, and when they asked what they could do to help I told them to lower the interest rate and the monthly payment. They said they couldn't.
After 6 months they settled for a much lower pay off amount, and we got out from under them.
Who knows with how bad things are and how much on credit cards I owe, I might have to do that chit again.

I hate that when I do that. Hit 'enter' instead of 'tab'...
OK,for sure, neat house, but, I'm with your parents on that one.
If I could, there'd be a move to a ranch (one story) because it seems there's always work on the roof, and dang! It's a loooooong way down on a two story!
Oh, and, it's probably a good thing all of our parents called us in at night, or I'm sure we'de have all extinctialized (?) lightning bugs!
OK, laughing aside, there is a different phrase to use IF you ever call the jerks back, but, whatever you do, don't skip a payment just to get a lower rate.
First, what I learned on PBS is, folks that pay off their bills? They're called deadbeats.
Yeah....go figure.
Now, the phrase you want to use is, "I'm thinking I'll just get another card and pay you off and be done with you. I need the lower interest, and so, I would like to know what the pay-off amount is."
Note that it shouldn't come in the form of a question, but, rather, looking for information.
And, as far as Sears is concerned? Follow through.
Be careful about a new card, but, dang, gal. Sit down at a calculater and do the math and you'll run (not walk) to the nearest card!
Visa offers some good deals...sometimes 6-9 months at 0% interest, then raising to either 6 or nine (depends on their mood, I think)
but goodness! ANYTHING like that is preferable to the 28% you're getting.
Oh, and be sure to make a nice video of yourself cutting up the card....just for giggles.

boney--yeah, mom was sick of having to run up & down the stairs with laundry (at least that was on the first floor, not the baasement!)...plus she started having trouble with her heart when i was 17, and they wanted the ranch-style...not my thing normally, but now, i'm having to LEARN to like 'em! boo! plus, i'm sure that dad was sick & tired of the storm windows on the second floor!

You know how I feel about the house. It looks like my dream home. I'd much prefer an old style home to the lavish new ones. If I could get a job down there I might just be living around the corner then you could visit on your scooter anytime!
I don't even want to talk about credit cards. I had one and was late so many times they turned it off. But at least they eliminated the late fee and lowered the interest rate! I can't wait to get out from these house pmts and get caught up. One of these days.

Now there is something that needs some real shaping up, the credit card industry!! Notice they are all in places like Delaware where there are hardly any laws to keep them in check. This is why you had this problem. It used to be that good credit meant low interest but not anymore! In fact there was a slavery law from long ago that had a provision built in that you could not put a person so much in debt that they could not repay it. This law extended to credit cards and interest rates. The banks had lawmakers overturn that rule so they could pile it on no matter what you did. I HATE them and refuse to have any credit cards. I do loans.
I never needed to be told to go and play outside. Sign of the times.
Can you play that banjo on the wall? Is that a banjo?

ricardo--yeah, it's a 'decorative banjo', i guess, unless mr b used to play it...it wasnt there when i lived there, though!
yeah, i thought it was always weird that if you call anybody about this card, it's not sears, it's citibaank, south dakota, sears has absolutely nothing to do with the cards...you go to searscard.com to pay it! well, you can pay it at the store, but they'll only take cash, not your debit card! & i was told by a card co that sears cd isn't a credit card, it's a charge card...whatEVer!

That looks like such a comfortable and homey place! I'm glad you got to see it again, and amazing that the dates coincided like that.
I think you hit the nail on the head about overweight kids. We used to play outside in all kinds of weather and it never killed us. The adults chased us outdoors if it wasn't raining cats and dogs and we had to use our imaginations to come up with stuff to entertain ourselves. I think we were the richer for it.

cindy--you are so right about that, we always had to use our *gasp* imaginations to figure out something to play! remember "mom, i'm bored" and she always said, "well, you can always iron, wash dishes, fold clothes.." *insert chore of your mom's choice here* we were never THAT bored, were we?

(1) I never needed extra exhortion to stop watching TV and go out and play. I did, however, need coaxing to stop practicing the piano and get out of the house.
(2) My parents still live in the house where I mostly grew up. The other houses where I live (except for one) are still standing, and I go back and visit them periodically.
(3) Your parents were a handsome couple.
