lol @ Truman... yea, animals often go offensive to be defensive, we humans would do better to remember that!
And some people think cats aren't smart......hah. Yeh, you had some big time egg on your face for sure. The cat must have known that you were not to go outside......you must keep that in mind next time he goes up on his hindlegs and hisses at you, if it should ever happen again.
Isn't it amazing just how big a raccoon can be. I had one in Garden Grove come onto the back patio, and when he was on his hindlegs, his head was even with the picnic table. He was huge. They say they can be pretty mean when they want to be, and those teeth look sharp, not to mention rabies.....although there hadn't been a reported case in 22 years in Garden Grove. Mine ambled on into Ana's playhouse, and made a mess of her kitchen playthings, and I just let him be, by morning he was gone.
LOu wouldn't let a raccoon near our place when he was alive.
yeah my cat would have fed me to the racoon. hehehehehe
I'm sure my dogs would have had him for lunch though.
I love my cat, but he is "daddy's cat" if he could get rid of me and kiddo he would. lol
so glad truman is the real gentleman. lol

Raccoons are no joke, but I've seen plenty of them in the city. My parents live in Cincy, and they see them all the time. I've seen a couple in Central Park too.
Perhaps next time, you'll get a better read on Truman's hissing. I didn't realize that cats were that intelligent.
This is another amazing pet story. I am amazed at the things they can do for us.
Cats are very territorial and protective. He's a good boy! I hope this happened at night, as a raccoon sighting during the day usually means they are rabid.
oh, summer, good to know!! it was dark, about 8 pm...and, ya know, rabid or not...it's MY deck, not his!! :-D!!
