Gravatar Have you ever listened to Rush? Have you ever considered there might be a bias at NPR? Do you believe the free market works-for anything? Do you think any consumer is resposible for over-extending themselves with no-interest mortgages equal to the "value" of their homes.

Open your mind just a little bit. Give it a try.

Gravatar Yes, actually, I have listened to Rush Limbaugh. His commentary is heavily biased in favor of the Republicans (no surprise) and against the truth; his lies are amply documented.

Is there a bias at NPR? Of course. It's a bias towards reason, though, not so much a bias towards a particular set of political beliefs. Rush Limbaugh, of course, is in the mold of George W. Bush and the on-screen persona of Stephen Colbert: he goes with what his "gut" tells him, even if his eyes, ears, and brain disagree.

Are individual consumers responsible for taking on mortgage debt they shouldn't have? Yes, of course. Is Senator Phil Gramm personally responsible for pushing to create a situation in which there was such an enormous incentive and such a lack of safeguards to prevent that failed mortgage from being an isolated problem, instead turning it into a national financial scandal? Absolutely. Don't forget, it takes two to tango: in order for the consumer to take an unwise loan, there also has to be an unwise lender.

My mind is quite open, unlike yours, Jim. The first step to opening your mind is to turn off Rush Limbaugh. If you want a conservative voice, at least find one who has at least a shred of credibility: George F. Will, for example.
