THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS!

I totally agree with your first choice of WW1 and WW2, but my second would probably be the arrival of the internet, and the third which is cold war related, but the fall of the Wall. My final choice is a bit more specific rather than the big picture. But I think the internet is something that is also important, as how could we live or do without the internet nowadays??? my 2 cents, which isn't worth much nowadays :p

Cheers,
Jer

that is HILARIOUS that they asked that on an interview form.

i think the broader answer that Jer is getting at is the technological revolution, which would be one of my answers, I think. The Internet isn't worth much without the computer. WWI and II were good choices, and actually, you could probably argue that oral contraceptives fits into your broader women's movement answer. and the cold war was also a really good choice.

i'm going to think longer on my top 3...

Gravatar For a rather embarrassing amount of time, I was thinking the creation of the printing press. Ahh! The shame.
Here's my three:
1) Women's Movement/ Civil Rights Movement
2) Discovery of penicillin
3) Advent of airplane travel

Gravatar yeah, amy, upon further thought I thought airplane travel was huge. and civil rights, which I thought about after. Blanketing civil rights and women's movement together is almost as bad as me putting both wars together, though!!! Penicillin - yeah. Important. And don't worry about the printing press....I almost put 9/11 on there....smrt.

Jeremie, I also completely agree about the technological revolution, including, of course the internet.

and, ally, yeah, I broadened my "Oral contraceptive" thing to women's movement, because I thought it fit nicely under there, too.

Gravatar i admit i too almost wrote the printing press. *sigh*.

Gravatar a group interview? that's the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard.

a) Stonewall
b)Woodstock
c)the birth of Cher

Gravatar Yes. It is ridiculous to have the Women's Movement and the Civil Rights Movement share a spot - but I think a key function of the question is not only to demonstrate that you A) know when the 20th century is and B) have some sense of historical events but also to demonstrate that your knowledge covers a wide-range of topics applicable to materials available at Indigo. And as the store groups Women's/Gender/Sexuality Studies next to Civil Rights related material, grouping the two movments together together seemed like a pretty safe (albeit simplistic) bet. Regardless, it is the most random (and yet somehow the best) question to be asked in an interview for a minimum wage job. Where you asked to explain your answers during the group interview?

Gravatar no. we weren't asked to explain anything in the interview. Maybe at the follow-up one, if I get it.

I should do more posts for some of the other questions they asked. There were some other weird ones....

Gravatar I was once asked in a phone interview: "What bugs you?"

*blink*blink* Umm...

In my infinite management class wisdom I asked, "Could we come back to that question?" "Yes", they agreed, "we could".

So they moved onto their next question: "What don't you like?"

*blink*blink* Umm... (Thinking 'isn't this the same question?')So I rambled... Something about micormanagement and a lame joke about onions...

Next question: "What bugs you?"

... the f&ck? Aren't you supposed to come back to this one at the end? I can't sluff it off again! I have to answer it now! DAMN YOU SAULT STE. MARIE!

Funny thing is, they gave me the job. I turned it down... People move away from Sault Ste. Marie, not towards it.

Gravatar Splitting the atom.
women's movement.
civil rights.

Gravatar my god amanda. why did they want to know what bugged you so much?? That's hilarious. "What bugs you?"???! So weird. I would have said "This question bugs me."

Paul, you love war. I would have thought you would have put something there about war....and did you just put women's movement to score points with the gf? P.S. you should come earlier than later on Saturday so that we can practice crokinole. And bring your board....
