Those 1000's of people that have died are casualties from the Georgian attack on South Ossetia. South Ossetians with Russian citizenship. When that happened Russian troops weren't even on their way to South Ossetia. Russian troops entered South Ossetia when Georgia managed to get control over Tskhinvali.
Yes Russia is bombing cities. The South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali to eliminate the Georgian troops. And later on Georgian cities in order to disrupt the Georgian military. I don't think they are interested in Georgia itself nor the oil. But I think they want to do things US style. Gettins Saakhasvili out of office an putting a Russian friendly president in charge.

Oh please. Have you immersed yourself in Russian state television? The apartment buildings Russia is attacking has nothing to do with THE INTERNAL STRUGGLE IN GEORGIA. Russia needs to keep their nose out of it. South Ossetia is part of Georgia, not Russia. Russia has invaded a country, not the other way around. If those "Russian citizens" want to be Russian, then that's where they should move.
Russia is not only attacking military bases, but also the infrastructure of Georgia. That is how you defeat a country, not free these so called Russian citizens.
Explain to me why, when Georgia offered a ceasefire, didn't return fire, and retreated some, why the Russians kept attacking. Maybe it's because the goal of their war is to conquer Georgia.
Russia has been slowly reverting back to a communist state over the past several years. They're not even trying to hide it. Ukraine, Chechnya, Czech Republic, Poland, and now Georgia. Russia has been interfering in the affairs of these countries because they want Democracy and freedom, something Russia doesn't want for them.

And one more thing, why is it so important to have a "Russian friendly president", The people of Georgia voted for their president, that is who they wanted. They realize that being an ally of western democracies is much better than being an ally of a brokedown, oppresive country.

First off, I wouldn't call capitalist, US-aligned nations 'democratic'. The rich and the greedy rule in the favored US model.
US economic policies after the fall of the Soviet Union were a massive faliure--as is evident from the skyrocketing early deaths, lack of health care, and general impoverishment.
Thank you US capitalist fanatics for foisting on the Russians an economic system that allowed them to taste the glories of oligarch capitalism.
Ossetia is populated with a majority population that wants no part of Georgia becoming a puppet government in the US sphere of influence.
Fortunately, Georgia did a "Bush", they engaged in an ill-fated, stupid attack on Ossetia that murdered Russian citizens. Now Russia is taking care of business--and non of you capitalist-stoodges will do anything to stop it. LOL
Big chicken-hawks, arm-chair warriors--exposed as a bunch of chest-thumping pimps and sissies.

Oh boohoo, obviously the government didn't do enough to make you poor baby happy.
You think Russia is so great, move your ass there and enjoy it. I bet you will wish you were still here when you have to stand in line for a loaf of stale bread. Of course pathetic douchebags like yourself will always hate America unless there is an equally pathetic douchebag as president and an equally pathetic douchebag majority in Congress.
Georgia was taking back land that is part of it's territory. Russia has been interfering with South Ossetia for over a decade.
Your statements also lead me to believe you are a total dumbass. Congress approved an authorization of force. That means many dipshit democrats voted for it.
What was "ill-fated"? Iraq? I've read comments from troops that want to go to Afghanistan because there's more action there. Sounds like Iraq isn't "ill-fated" as you say.
Just kill yourself so your family won't have to associate with you anymore.

Tim, I agree that the Democrats are vile--but the Rethugs are far worse.
Everyone that is not already a millionaire hates the worthless Rethugs. They are whores for the criminal big business class that is shipping jobs to China.
No the Dems are not much better--they just advocate beating the slaves a bit less harshly--and maybe letting poor black kids see a doctor, or the like.
Compared to the welfare that US mafia business recieved, all the minorities hated by the white supremacists in the US look like they are getting a raw deal. They are.
Why would I want to move to Russia? I just think that they have everyright to bomb the shit out of you if you try to make problems in their sphere of influence.
The US government are savage, imperialist liars--they have much in common with German Nazis in the way they want to rule the entire world. And the world is getting sick of US imperialism.
No, I will stay in the US and help organized the little people to overthrow the rich, lazy, fat-cats that are destroying my country.
On second thought--Bush is doing most of my work for me. LOL
Viva Bush!
Putin just Punked Bush. Chew on that thought for a while.

I'm so far from being a millionaire, it isn't even funny. But, Democrats promise year in and year out they're gonna fight for the little guy and where has that gotten anybody?
Basically the next few paragraphs of your comment are just ridiculous. You are an extremely paranoid and delusional person.
What makes you think it's Russia's "sphere of influence"?
Putin didn't punk Bush, Putin knew that his little flexing of military muscle was growing real old, real fast. They knew that the shit was really gonna start flying if they didn't knock it off. I'm sure some of the equipment that was dropped off with those 2000 or so Georgian soldiers helped.

Well, Tim, it is true that Russia has relations with this region that go back, literally thousands of years. As that is the case, this is clearly Russia's sphere of influence. Add to this fact that the Ossetians are are quasi-autonomous, and are allied with Russia...well, you get the picture.
Russia is still in Georgia, and I don't think that at this point the Bear is afraid of Uncle Sammie--or its capitalist pimps in Western Europe. Quisling Europe wants no part of the Russian Bear, no part.
I say that Russia will continue to demand that Saakashvili step down--and face a war crimes tribunal.
No, the big bad US empire is a little bit occupied (or, rather 'occupying' lol) right at this moment. Don't look for a swift exit from Georgia--at least not until the Bear is assured that they have crippled Georgian military capabilities.
Who knows, maybe the Bear has actually taken US mercenaries as prisoner. I've heard rumor to that effect.
Suffice it to say that Georgia will not try to play the genocide card again.
Something tells be that Saakashvili and GW Bush are coke-buddies--because they had to have been on drugs to have to badly calculated what their genocide would lead to.
Your lucky that Putin is generous and has some class--a real fascist/capitalist/imperialist power would have blown the Georgian soldier's out of the sky before these planes could land.
But the Georgians will not have Iraqi civilians as target practice anymore--they can try their hand at shooting bear. But I doubt they will. Far easier to laugh and throw grenades at unarmed Iraqis and Ossetian civilians.
