Your experience sounds very interesting. I had a similar experience when I first moved from North America to Europe. I arrived with a suitcase and a dog and some rusty French. The customs were foreign, the people were foreign and I had nowhere to go except a small cabin in the mountains kindly provided by some distant friends. From there I set about finding an apartment and installing myself. Three+ years later and I haven't returned "across the pond", but I do miss "home". Still, the experience has been marvellous, so I can understand what you are writing about...thanks for writing this.

Oh John! I was wondering where you hail from these days...No pumpkin in France? But I'm sure there are plenty of other pleasures...
Things seemed to have worked out well for you. I'm glad.
