Before I found out we were moving here, I thought New Zealand was a brand of butter.

And I'm glad planes were invented when we emigrated!

Gravatar Yeah. Anchor butter - that brand wasn't actually used here for years.

Gravatar Reading these (yours and Alan's at Half Pie) are making me homesick. Stop it.

(Also, I was going to tell you 'balmy' rather than 'barmy,' but actually you could be right...)

Gravatar fantastic.

I started writing my post up today, but now I read yours, I think mine needs a little work. Getting there...

Gravatar Uh... no, I thought it might be balmy, but couldn't be arsed looking it up.

Gawd James, I keep thinking every version was getting worse...

Gravatar The difference between balmy and barmy is that the barmy days aren't restricted solely to summer...

Gravatar But possibly to British immigrants...

Gravatar Cool, thanks for that. Glad you made it out of Wainui!

Gravatar Yesss... mind you, I have always thought that Wainui is to the Hutt, what Karori is to Wellington. (OK Karori folk, line up to beat me now)

The Empire Hotel is still there I believe.

Gravatar Excuse me, I've just made it INTO Wainui!

Gravatar Hee hee... but aren't you right out the rural parts? That's OK.

Just wait until I get onto the subject of the Hutt Valley! I was moaning at work about some residential course I was going to have to attend in the Hutt. 3 days in Military Road... after I ranted about how long it took me to get out of the place, I was faced with 10 or so scowling faces in this meeting... all of whom choose to live in Lower & Upper Hutt.

And don't get me started on Karori!

Actually, my wife grew up in Wainui.

Gravatar "... ben dumped for my country"
Curious - is this "your country" then?

Gravatar It is now... but I am a citizen of others too (the Bourne Identity is WSwiss I believe).

but if a country chooses you to represent them in some field, it'd be churlish to be picky about which one.

I know a kiwi for instance, who has played cricket for Thailand

Gravatar Born Wellington Womans 1964, bought up in Karori, raised in Otaki, lives in UK - Proud to be a Kiwi
