I see DumpBachmann still sticking to the lie that PRT is a "boondoggle", eh? Hey, why not? Lies about PRT have gone unchallenged on Lloydletta/DB for so long, it's no surprise they continue to spew lies even after we've repeatedly debunked them.
Avidor, did you ever consider that maybe your obsessive and ridiculous focus on PRT helped Bachmann? Your insistence in pursuing your pet obsession has devalued the entire DumpBachmann effort, and your ridiculous theories (which are provably false) served to dilute the very real concerns and criticisms made by others.
Reasonable people who may have been swayed against Bachmann very well may have been turned off by your transparent agenda. A Transportation Enthusiast | Homepage | 11.09.06 - 6:49 pm | #

I highly doubt PRT proponents swung the election. HIGHLY doubt.
Plus, debunking on both sides has been poor. Each side cites very biased sources. I've seen maybe 2 relatively unbiased ones(one from each side, and I say LRT has the one up because it actually exists on a larger scale. Plus I like riding with people... but that aside, I don't think transportation gave Bachmann more votes, or gave Patty less. I think it came down to who could yell loudest. "I highly doubt PRT proponents swung the election. HIGHLY doubt."
I do too, but that's not the point. We're mocking your absurd belief that when pro-PRT candidates lose, it's because of their devotion an obscure issue that most voters have never even heard of.
So when pro-PRT candidates lose, it's because of PRT, but when they win, it's because the media didnt adequately reveal their insidious relationship to PRT.
You cant have it both ways. PRT Punk | Homepage | 11.09.06 - 10:26 pm | #

To Mike: is the European Union a "biased source"? See:
http://ec.europa.eu/research/
env...cle_2650_en.htm
http://archive.cardiff.gov.uk/tr...jondutton/
edict
This was a multi-year, government sponsored study involving city planners, researchers, and transit consultants across Europe. After this comprehensive study, they gave PRT an unqualified endorsement.
There are also dozens of research papers in peer reviewed journals, not to mention fully functioning prototypes.
A hoax? Nonsense.
BTW, I agree, PRT didn't swing an 8-point margin, but that doesn't mean that Avidor's tactics didn't dilute the DumpBachmann message.
DB's audience is the rational voter, the pro-science voter, the anti-extremist voter. So why have an irrational, extremist, self-described luddite constantly harping about ridiculous hoaxes and conspiracy theories? Isn't this pretty much guaranteed to alienate the target audience? When I asked, I received a link to a PRT company's site, the one with the "Look at this Y compared to this grid". This was a ways back, with one of the names I deemed fit for my mood at the time. The EU sites are much better.
PRT means I lose my favorite bus driver though. That's a bummer. Mike | Homepage | 11.10.06 - 1:52 am | #

"PRT means I lose my favorite bus driver though."
Not necessarily. PRT can fit nicely into a multi-modal solution, especially in the short term while the PRT network is still sparse. Your favorite driver may be safe for a decade or more...
Actually, many PRT proponents these days favor a multi-modal approach, despite what the detractors say. A Transportation Enthusiast | Homepage | 11.10.06 - 3:34 am | #

It probably was a non-issue. Bachmann's vote percentages were strongest in Sherburne County, Olson's area; and weakest in Washington County where people knew her best from her tour in the State Senate.

I live in Sherburne County and I'm proud we voted for Michele Bachmann. I'm glad I don't live in the communist 5th. district. dare2sayit.com | Homepage | 11.10.06 - 11:06 pm | #

Eric,
Just so ya know, Bachmann did win every county in the 6th. Regardless of her margin of victory, it is still impressive in the current electorate mood for Bachmann to have done that! J-dog | Homepage | 11.11.06 - 4:05 pm | #
