This is something very innovative you have -- a city events column on the blog that clearly shows the vibrancy of the city. Bangalore, though hyped around the world as a wired, IT city, ranks low at least in people's perception that it is a less vibrant city compared to Mysore. If one looks at the events column in a newspaper, one will know it's not so. Lina, a great observation. By the way from an earlier post I knew that there was a screening of Salaam Bombay. Did you see it?

Kristen: yes
Lina: thanks for that post. You're absolutely right. Amman is fascinating. Def not boring at all. Mostly for the people one meets, as far as I'm concerned.
But also, the scene is quite interesting. I saw very high-quality performances here, and it's not even unfair to compare it to Cairo. Sometimes, Amman offers better. And it has its advantages over Om Eddonia: CLEAN AIR, less traffic, clean buildings, general tidiness, closeness to major historical sites, taxis that are less than 30 year old and actually reach the end of the ride, taxis with meters, no constant honking and noise pollution, 1JD dvd stores... And did I mention CLEAN AIR ?

I think the problem with Amman is that most of the entertainment seems to target the "west-Ammanis", as Cliche' as using that term has become.
Most of the "have nots" in Amman probably wont be interested in the posted events, even the free ones, so i think the city is boring in the sense that the entertainment industry in it doesnt cater for the greater majority of its population. and although what you posted seems like there is a lot happening, Amman is a city of almost 2 million residents, so that still isnt a lot. and there is also the lack of variety, it is always the same spots that have the same events, same film festivals. there arent enough theatres, and not enough theatrical production. most of what you see is not really Ammani, so i also think Amman needs more actors, Drama schools, more local concerts and productions.. basically it still has a long way to go, but it definately has improved over the past few years.

Lina, I cannot thank you enough for posting all this. I went to the screening of "occupation 101". Still have that lump in my throat. I will post on this.

Kristen: Count me as a yes.
I think the reason Amman is considered boring by some is because it is if you compare it to most modern capital cities. Personally, I don't find it boring because I enjoy the art scene, but I know people who do, and it's because they are well traveled and used to having many, many more options.

I come across people every now and then that claim boredom of Amman. Once, that Amman has no aqua side! Another, that all outings are the same! and many other empty notes.
I believe that it depends on each person, a very underground city with a lot of word of mouth. People hear alot about attitudes, behaviors, new points of view.. many defend opinions based on experiences of others. It had changed alot, materially for amusements, and way too much cultural. Yet alot is coming, and more is needed.
As for current activities that don't meet majority's interest comment, I would love to see majority on the opposing side of the nanci ajram and barcelona football exclusive buble

I don't think that Amman is boring. It's people who are bored.

I always get this "boring Amman Feedback" from people.... We must not forget a culture of complaining.lol.. but Amman is certainly not boring for me... But i guess it depends in what you're into.. for those who are not into cultural activities.. entertainment centers might be a bit limited.. and can get boring after a while... I just think there's even enough things going on specially in the summer, to an extent you miss some of the events coz things happen at the same time or you're occupied with something else.. thx for always posting our options for the week

"Sometimes I feel that no matter how many interesting things Amman offers, being bored is just a dominant issue in people’s mindsets here. It’s sort of a general attitude"
100 % agree with you.
