akhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... was that legal?!

Gravatar It sounds like it's not just against the law for the press to debate court ruling, but even to report that someone disputed a ruling legally.

Gravatar Ahhh, the smell of freedom of speech..

Gravatar Do you think it's possible for unionized journalists or the newspapers to go on strike?

Think about it this way. Our joke of a system relies heavily on the newspapers to disseminate propaganda to the people. Our printed press is over saturated with pro-gov pieces and here we see that people in power want to make sure it stays that way.

Imagine if all of a sudden, that tool with which the people in power keep injecting their spin into the masses is suddenly taken away in the form of a strike.

Try to imagine a month in Jordan, where no newspaper is printed. If that might seem not feasible, then imagine a month in which newspapers only carry entertainment news and ads. No opinion pieces, no news about what the government did, and no press releases from the government.

Gravatar I have been hearing more and more about this lately, and it sickens me. Anyone that so much as speaks one word against the government or any of the government's mandates suddenly is locked behind bars. This is not exclusive to the Middle East--a young Afghan journalism was sentenced to death for daring to read about women's rights. He downloaded a report from a Farsi website which listed the rights of women. For this, he will now be dying. I cannot believe what the world is coming to.

Gravatar the king says something, but the government does something totally opposite to what he's saying! what the hell is going on??

Gravatar In India, it's okay to comment on judgements but not on judges or on judiciary. One can comment on the merits and demerits of the case, but no motive should be attributed to the judgement. It should not look judiciary hasn't done a proper job. That will attract a contempt of court notice from the judiciary. A similar thing exists for parliament too. Comments on facts is okay, but opinions and personal remarks about lawmakers will attract contempt of parliament case.

Gravatar The case against AmmanNet has been postponned till April 1, will try and keep you posted
