Don't misunderstand me, Sister Whatever (if that really was you). I think you folks are repugnant beyond words in your blasphemy. I don't care that y'all are gay; that's your business. But the mockery you make of my church is sickening.
Despite that, the Phelps crowd revolts me even more, especially since they're quite sincere and you're merely trying to be offensive.
All plans I had for the Friday Eff Off Thread tomorrow have just been changed.

What you see as "mockery", we see as reverance. We are not mocking anyone. We are doing the same work that any type of nun (not just Catholic)has done for centuries. We give our time and energy (and even money) to help those in need. You can read all about that on our website.
I know, I know... your next question is, "Well, yeah you do great work Sister, but why do you have to dress like that?". Well Joel, have you ever tried to walk into a bar or a crowd to hand out condoms, or talk to people about safer sex, or to solicit donations for people in need? It's really hard to get peoples' attention when you look like an average Joe... or Mary (whatever the case may be). When you put on a little make-up and glitter and run around in a crazy outfit... you get noticed! People actually come up to you and ask if you have a condom. They talk to you about STD's. They talk to you about their loved one who passed away. They hand you money and say "Good Work Sister. Put this to good use." We dress the way we do to not only get attention for our causes, but also because this world is already serious enough! Why not have silly, fun drag nuns running around helping make the world a better place?!
We're not Catholic nuns Joel. We don't pretend to be. Have you ever seen catholic nuns wear anything like we do? Including our headpieces? There are many types of nuns in the world my dear. Please don't be so presumptuous to think that the Catholic Church nuns are the only ones out there... They're just the most common. That's like saying there's only one type of bird on earth! We all know that's not true. Some of us are sparrows... and some of us are peacocks!
I challenge you Joel, to think outside the box. As mama said "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Dig deeper and look at the heart of what you're judging, before you make that judgement.
One last thing... because I know most people don't know this. Catholic nuns actually LOVE us! Many of us around the world have talked with Catholic nuns and they appreciate the work we do in our communities and have said they wish they could help us. Unfortunately, the Church doesn't allow them that freedom. We have thanked them for giving up so much of their lives to help others. We respect and admire each other for the work that we do and the love in our hearts that is behind that work. We respect the fact that we work in different ways (and look different), but we understand that the intention to make the world a glorious place to live is always there.
I hope all this explains the Why question to you a little better. If not... I'm sorry.
