I think I have an answer to the Tommy Duncan mystery. According to Charles Townsend's bio of Wills, San Antonio Rose, "the script called for [Wills] and only five other musicians." My guess is that Bob figured that McAuliffe could serve as both vocalist and steel guitarist. Duncan was strictly a vocalist.

Cool! I wouldn't have thought of that. I believe Duncan was out of the band for a while during the war, but this was a little early for that to be an issue.
