I'm looking at the figures for the size of Krypton relative to Earth, and I'm coming to a different conclusion here.
You say that if Earth has gravity equal to .03 Krypton, this makes it greater than the suface of our sun, and would mean that at the same density, Krypton would be larger than Jupiter, having 33x the diameter.
You also say that the gravity on Krypton, 33 times a great as Earth, is greater than the surface of the sun. This is simply not true. Gravity at the surface of the sun is greater than that on Earth by a factor of thousands, a lot more than 33.
Back to the plantets. To have 33x the gravity of Earth, Krypton would have to have 33x the *mass*, not diameter of Krypton. Remember that a planet is 3 dimensional and any increase in diameter would result in a difference of that factor cubed in mass. For example, double the diameter and you get 8 times the mass.
A planet with similar density would only need to be 3.2x the diameter to have 33 times the mass, and hence 33 times the gravity.
A planet that would be 33 times the diameter at the same density would be about 36,000x the mass and gravity of Earth.

I just ran my comments by my SO, and she tells me that I was way, way off, gravity doesn't work the way I thought it does. Please disregard the above as a fundamental misunderstanding of half remembered high school physics.

I read your passage and I have to say well done. Since your passage there have been some things that have changed that fix a few of the plot hole errors. One, if you watch the beginning of the Superman Returns movie you see Kal's ship traveling through many wormholes to get to earth. Thought that was interesting. Another interesting note, is that in Smallville the martian manhunter says that he used to be in league with Jor-El so therefore Jor-El might have actually known about Mars. Also in Smallville, (i know smallville isn't the most accurate representation of Superman but it does fix these holes.) Jor-El is shown to have visited Earth before. He was helped by Hiram Kent (Clark's grandfather) therefore, he might have chosen Earth because he knew his son would be in good hands, with people whom Kal-El looked like. One final note, in the superman comics when Kal reconstructed Kandor and sent one of his friends to be an ambassador, they said the gravity would be 8 times as strong....not 220,000 or whatever. Of course this was in the cartoon so it probably wasn't thought out. Very well thought out points though...thanks!
