"Oh thats right, they are not important, they only kill people"
As opposed to Republican ones, which do what exactly, tickle their victims??
Your whataboutery is starting to get on my nerves, all guns have got to disappear from N.Ireland.
If the Provos have decommissioned all their weapons and are winding down the organisation I'll be the first on to welcome it.IF that's what they're doing.
But you're also right, jim, the Loyalist weapons have got to go as well..what's your practical suggestions for how this is achieved?

"We've been here before"
When have we been here before?
Any weapons out of the hands of terrorists is a big step forward. If we are to believe the IICD then the bulk of IRA weapons are gone. Has that happened before? It is groundbreaking. It is historic.

Diane Dodds MLA, believes that the uvf are an integral part of the unionist community, so i'm not sure that anyone within unionism wants their terrorists to disarm.
"As opposed to Republican ones, which do what exactly, tickle their victims??"
No, you get rid of them and look to the future.
Unionism however seems to have a problem using the word 'future' , they seem more comfortable harping back to the past.

maca,
We'll have to wait and see. I greet these things with cautious optimism nowadays.

"Diane Dodds MLA, believes that the uvf are an integral part of the unionist community, so i'm not sure that anyone within unionism wants their terrorists to disarm"
Do you believe everything Diane Dodds or Sammy Wilson tells you?
Have you actually ever spoken or met a Unionist?
Here's a couple of things Uncle Gerry may not have told you at your last briefing.
1. We do not all support the DUP. I personally believe they are every bit as sectarian as Sinn Fein.
2. Not all Unionist support the Loyalist terrorists, they are the Unionist working classes biggest enemy at the minute. If they all disappeared up in a cloud of their own cocaine smoke tomorrow, I would be delighted.
"Its time to decommission the weapons of the dup/ulster resistance, burn your purple berets and move forward"
I think it would be a lot more productive if it was actually the UVF/LVF and UDA who gave up their weapons. The DUP, despite their other faults, are not in possession of rocket-launchers,anti-tank missiles, machine guns or any stolen loot from the Northern bank.
With regards the purple beret, I'll be keeping hold of mine, if it's alright with you, winter's coming and it keeps my big ears warm

There is nothing historic in Monday's news. When an army looses, they get rid of their weapons or they are taken off them.
What will be historic is if SF/IRA get a clean bill of health from the IMC next month and in January. If the IMC says they have totally abandoned criminality, then they can be considered suitable for government.

Trinity,
I thought I did pretty well for Reg Empey. I said:
"Sir Reg will firstly inform the media who he is and why he's worth listening to, then he will question the evidence. He will probably ask for time to reflect on what has happened. A common unionist tactic of avoiding acknowledging a positive development,"
If you check his statement on the UUP's website, he questions the evidence and he also asks for time to reflect on what has happened saying:
"We will however wait and see the outworking of events."
I don't think I did too badly.
