I presume Dr. Panke and Dr. Allen don't 'do' lunch in the canteen in UCD very often!
Interesting interview. She engaged very genuinely I thought.
However her response to Kieran Allen's statement was ridiculous.
"Europe has shifted from being a zone of stability within the global order to one where millions of workers are fighting to defend gains they won in the past"
In her reply she speaks of economic development. The issue is workers' rights and conditions. These have been hard won in the past and are being rolled back. Throwing about terms like 'efficiency', 'competitiveness', 'globalisation' doesn't make it stink any less.

Er, anyway...that was a very interesting interview.
As I've said, I would be a natural "yes" voter but have yet to hear anyone on the yes side give concrete POSITIVE reasons why we should change the Constitution. Dr Panke is the first to do so.

That "er, anyway" related to a rather odd post that has now been removed.

Yes a frank interview with Dr Panke but I am still pretty uneasy about the direction Lisbon takes us. I'd still be one of the 'undecided'.

Reg, do you know what this means?
"When the Treaties confer on the Union a competence shared with the Member States in a specific area, the Union and the Member States may legislate and adopt legally binding acts in that area. The Member States shall exercise their competence to the extent that the Union has not exercised its competence. The Member States shall again exercise their competence to the extent that the Union has decided to cease exercising its competence."
Can you understand it?

Davey good point and a reason to vote no in itself.
I'd consider myself a reasonably intelligent person but I do not know what the above garbage means.

Sorry, Davey. Just getting back to you now.
Yes, it is a good point. I presume the paragraph you mention refers to the principle of subsidiarity...but they do their best to confuse us!
