I love it when unrepentant Marxists foam at the mouth over leftists who dont follow the party line on international issues like Islamism.
Clearly Halliday didnt follow the NLR line either, to his credit. His recent essay in Dissent will be cursed by marxists and stalinists, both of whom are regrettably still with us, but is a healthy rebuttal to the leftists who still believe that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
Still unanswered is this question: why do leftists who profess to support human rights, equality, social justice, women's enfranchisement, and civil liberties (am I presuming too much?) have this infatuation with the Islamists whose creed opposes all these things? And why is the LEFT supporting Islamism in the same mode as the US, UK and Israel did in the seventies, in order to OPPOSE and CRUSH not just communism but all manifestations of leftist, populist or nationalist beliefs? The left needs to find another model than the US, which sought out, bribed and used radical Islamists whom they knew (or should have known) would turn against THEM later on.
