To be fair to Powell, he made it pretty clear he was not in favour of the war. I wish he had stood up a little stronger on the issue and resigned sooner though. If you guys had to have a Republican president I think he would actually make a good candidate. Maybe you can have two black presidents in a row.

That's precisely why he will NEVER be a candidate. He failed to assert himself and stood by while Bush led us down to the path to disaster. Powell should have resigned in protest. Instead he remained in the administration, and allowed himself and the state department to become increasingly marginalized.
If Powell were to ever run for office, he would have to explain why he stood by and let his reputation go down the toilet.
