Amazing! Head nurses also like to feast on interns (which are basically 5th year med students this early on in the year).

HOORAY! How I love your cartoons. I referenced your psychiatry rotation cartoon the other day -- one of my friends didn't know that most psych wards have locked doors with actual keys to get in and out (her hospital used a keypad).
Thanks for the Labor Day treat!

Did 'skutmonkey,' as in the word, originate from the underweardrawer? That would be AWESOME if it did.

O my god, I am a cliche. An altruistic cliche! This is great. And don't all head nurses look like that?! I might add in midwives too... the important thing is to not show that you're scared

ROTFLMFAO! Priceless! Altruistic vibes from core of being! Perpetual expression etc. So true! LOL! So true! And cuff links! Oh. My. God! ROFL! Anyway, our attendings here are almost like uber-residents...minus the stains. lol!

I love this!!! The silver hair, the fountain pen, the cuff links, the leather shined shoes, the glasses, the tie clip.....it all describes my doctor too well!!! I think the only people who use fountain pens are probably doctors and lawyers.

"Altruistic vibes from core of being"
Too true. 10 minutes ago I was mocked by a psych resident for *wanting* to continue daily supportive therapy on my patients. He dresses like an attending but he is still a resident in his soul. Sigh.

I've been waiting ages for another scutmonkey comic! This one is scarily accurate - I'm an intern right now and the one of the resident had me summon up enough energy to *ROTFL* even though I'm post alternate day calls. You rock!

Where do the fellows fall in exactly? And it's funny you mention the white coats. As a PhD student in a research hospital, the med students get all upset that we don't wear short lab coats (we have no such distinction in graduate school). Do patients even realize there's difference, or do they just see a white coat and think doctor??

In the pediatric practice I recently left, we had 3rd year medical students rotate through our office. They spent a month with us. The nurses, the rest of the staff, and the patients all LOVED them. They were all so eager to learn and appreciative of the time we spent to share our knowledge. They are the future doctors, but they looked up to us nurses for, at this point in time, we know more about a lot of things than they do. We did not make them feel inferior with our knowledge, we were glad to share it with them and glad that they were willing to learn from us. We laughed around the lunch table each day. And held a party for each when their time with us came to an end. It baffles me that it would be otherwise. This is what the relationship between doctors and nurses should be... mutual and respectful. These youth are the doctors who will be caring for us when we are old. Why not treat them with the same compassion we hope they one day give us.

Fantastic comic! I'll scurry off to find my reflex hammer to be an appropriately outfitted med student.
I had an attending that would coordinate his socks and tie every day. Whereas I grab two and hope for the best - he asked me if I dressed in the dark, and I was too happy to give him the truthful answer.
Can't wait to see the rest of the specialty comics!
