I wouldn't worry about it. Just let yourself fall gently off the radar screen. When he phones you up weeks later asking you what the hell happend to you, just give him the usual "Sorry-sorry-sorry-really-really-busy-career- career-career" shpiel everyone gives everybody else. Works like a charm every time
