Unless they are clinically diagnosed as schizophrenic and discharged from the IDF on that basis, then they will try to kill you, twice.

Du Pré had her own odd way of behaving too though, allegedly... the whole thing about demanding her sister's husband. Though that was later.
Barenboim puts a fair amount of time and effort into Arab Israeli relations. Runs an orchestra drawn from both sides.

I know, I know, she was crazy in her own way too. I anticipated a roasting on that.
I thought it strange that the article didn't mention her at all though.

Ah well: they aren't famous for being nice, and there's wankers in every walk of life.
Guy I know saw her do the Elgar at the Proms once. He's never heard it since without unfavourably comparing the performance with hers. Boring sod.

You people obviously haven't witnessed my good friend and bandmate Richie Sambora perform the opening of "Deal or Alive," because if you had, you would not be wasting time discussing this Du Pre person!
Or the cello!
Instead, you would be dancing around your respective rooms in your repective underwear, pumping your fists in the air while singing along to the chorus of the aforementioned song!
However, this orchestra is from the very real city of New York, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt, because:
NYC ROCKS!

Suspect the others in the office might look at me oddly if I started dancing in my underwear, but hell it's Friday afternoon, why not?

Remember to pump fists also. That's very important.

I think the Elgar Cello Concerto is possibly my favourite piece of music ever in the whole world. Even better than Fools Rush In (Where Angels Fear To Tread), by Brook Benton.

I've been suspicious of Barenboim because he has a serious Wagner fetish. And his conducting, honestly, ain't all that.

I've been suspicious of Barenboim ever since he never picked up a six-string and slung it across his back!

Barenboim's CSO tenure was doomed from the start. He was never going to adequately replace Sir G. Solti and he did his best to alienate many of Chicago's top music patrons along the way. A great pianist, indeed, but just because he is good with his hands doesn't mean he has a clue what to do with his baton. I'm sure Maccers has encountered this metaphorically throughout her travels . . .

"just because he is good with his hands doesn't mean he has a clue what to do with his baton"
And is that a baton he's waving or was he just really, really happy to see her.
