I still live in a 'miserable' Northumbrian village and I would like to invite Ms Kramer to do a speaking of tour, starting out at Cramlington Working Men's Club on a Saturday night, then maybe Ashington, Easington (that's about to close now too). I'm sure she'd get an enthusiastic reception.
And then we''ll get dressed up in our fetish gear, get on horseback and chase her across the countryside until our hounds rip her to shreds. Just for sport, of course.

I was walking through Parliament Square on the last big demo (the invasion of the Commons one). Whatever else you think about issue, at least the Met are consistent. They battered the miners quite merrily and they seemed just as stick-happy with the hunt supporters. (FWIW, I'm from the "plague on both your houses" school when it comes to hunters vs sabs/banners. Does that make me insufferably middle class?)

You patronising git. What's nostalgic or self-righteous about wanting to have a job? What is truly ugly is entire villages being devastated when the only employer for miles around closedown over night.
Whereas some seem to have discovered a nostalgia for fox-hunting that it never deserved. That's what really makes me want to puke.

Merry - I *am* a TEFL teacher. How spooky. Although, again, I'm forced to correct language on Maccers' comment forum. These days it's "teaching english as a second language". "Foreign" is pejorative, you see.
The English (miners or otherwise) are no longer willing to work for an honest days pay. They won't even breed anymore and are forced to hire us to take care of them in their dotage and slow national decline.
They are going extinct. In a few short years they will be replaced (in what was their country) by more robust and hardworking peoples: Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nigerians and us Jamaicans.
We don't care about foxes or toffs or hunts or Ned Ludd or other dead history.
Your history and your old tribal stories are as dead as the English soon will be.
You have had your time in England. Its time you just move on. It is our country now.
