Gravatar Spiers-awe indeed. I think it may be time to get rid of your Kicker link.

Gravatar $50,000 worth of rock in front of you and you couldn’t take your eyes off the MAN?

My God, there’s hope for that city yet.

Gravatar I finished Heller's book not long ago too -- why did you think the book ultimately failed?

Gravatar I wasn't convinced with the narrator, especially when she is recounting the sex scenes - I think they are too graphic to have come purely from the narrator. I think if Heller wanted to focus on that she should have used the letter Sheba was supposed to have written or some other deivce other than just a repitition of sheba - I am not sure that Sheba would have been so detailed. Still I guess the fact that they both appear to me as characters about whom I can make assumptions means that they are portrayed very well.

Also I winced at some things like the mention of the BHS suit - I just thought that was an excessive attempt to make the narrator somehow more small minded.

I thought a lot of it was great but I just didn't think it worked in the end.

Gravatar This post makes me think of Joseph Heller, in more ways than one.

Gravatar Was it Chez Esaada? That place can be very romantic. But for me, asking someone to marry you in public and at lunch lacks a certain, um, gravitas.

Gravatar L'Orange Bleu. Bizarro.

Gravatar FEck! L'emme took my line.

Gravatar Once you've seen one piece of crystalized carbon, you've seen them all.

Though having said that, 50 big ones works out to about three-and-a-half-to-four carats. Sounds like you could put an eye out with that thing.
