Gravatar I have this mud mask that I love, and the ingredients list is water, kaolin, bentonite, glycerin, blah blah blah. It was really cheap, and I just got it at the local drugstore. It's called Queen Helene Natural English Clay Mud Pack Masque.

Gravatar The best thing i ever did for ingrown hairs was laser hair removal. After one round of treatment i noticed almost immediate improvement. I've since had several treatments and i think it's fantastic.

Gravatar Amputation.

Gravatar yeah I want lasers. So much. So so much.

Does help ones that are in there already though?

Sorry but I can spend HOURS on this topic.

Oh and thanks Uch. No, really. For everything.

Gravatar sugar mixed with a nice fragrance-free lotion makes a really good exfoliant. That will prevent ingrown hairs. But if it's swollen or infected that will just irritate it more. I would put a triple antibiotic cream on it and ice it. Maybe some aloe especially if it's fresh from the plant.

Gravatar It doesn't hurt existing ones but makes them easier to opperate on since you've zapped the root(i know we're not supposed to but it's hard to resist) I go to Smooth Synergy on 56th and Lex; smoothsynergy.com It's a med-spa and it's fairly inexpensive compared to places like Completely Bare. At CB, after paying $275 none of the hair fell out. It's quite the rip off. At SS underarms are $100 and bikini is $150 (the places most prone to ingrowns) Lasers are currently my favorite topic.

Gravatar De nada.

Gravatar Wow Lee, that is very useful to know

I thought lasers were in the thousands. I must check it out.

Now, does it hurt?

Gravatar Thank you for reminding me to check up on a story I saw on NY1 early last year, that sometime in 2005 they are releasing a consumer laser hair removal product. It is meant to cost around $2000.

Split the cost with some friends, and live forever! I mean, live hair-free.

Gravatar I wouldn't let the SS anywhere near my body, but that's just me.

Gravatar Lee is the lucky one, any girl with blonde hair will be turned down for laser hair removal.

Gravatar It depends on your pain tolerance. The underarms are less painful than the bikini area - specifically the top part - below the belly button. It feels like a rubberband snap with a bit of heat. Not terrible since it only takes about 5 minutes. Once the hair falls out(about 2 weeks) you're hairless for about 6 weeks. When it grows back it comes in fine, like arm hair. And yes, unfortunately blondes are out of luck for the moment.

Gravatar TENDSKIN. It works and it also prevents ingrown hairs...

Gravatar It doesn't though.

I have been using it for years.

Maybe it's just me.

Gravatar i've lasered before and the pain was slightly unbearable. just remember to never, ever go during that time of the month. i went to this awesome brazilian place and the woman was very kind and also gentle. as soon as I find her number i'll post for you.

Gravatar yes, the allure of completely bare eludes me. also i'm afraid one of those tvs is going to fall on my head.

i use a product for african-american men called bump-stomp in conjunction with a rigorous exfoliating routine.

i use abra alpha enzyme peel (and steam the skin as in a facial masque) and various other exfoliants, as well as, men should close their eyes, a pumice stone, but on only the less sensitive spots. otoh, ingrown hairs don't really occur elsewhere do they? but now, i swear, i'm getting laser surgery.

pornstars swear by tend skin, but as far as i can tell its sole purpose is to make a pantyless girl hop around the bathroom in agony.

happy lasering

Gravatar I agree about tend skin and the hopping. It did worked ok on the bikini area. But i had no success with the underarm area, that's when i turned to lasering. After 4 sessions i'm not only ingrown free but virtually hairless. As for ingrowns appearing in other areas i have a friend who is unfortunate enough to have them all over her legs and thighs. If anyone has this problem using the Purple Jergens with the alpha hydroxy helps, it also helps with those pesky pink bumps that appear on the upper arm that get worse the more you exfoliate.

Gravatar Tendskin works if you apply it for a week after waxing (wait until the next day to start). Sheets of your skin will rub off after bathing but the hair grows out, not in.

Gravatar Applying deodorant/anti-perspirant to shaved areas prevents ingrowns better than TendSkin.

Gravatar You know I have to jump in and comment on things of this nature - Bliss makes these anti-ingown pads to swipe the area - they're quite expensive, but good. You can also compare their ingrediant list with a cheapy drigstore brand for adolescent acne.

Also, a loofa or loofa cloth is good for this purpose.

Finally, there is product called PV50, a toner type thing that my facialist (the famous facialist) sells me, that has helped with ingrowns in the past, especially is you use it regularly.

Also, Bliss has a bikini area "facial" that I'm considering since I decided to save money and go somewhere new for a wax...sounds mortifying, but better than someone wondering what those red bumps are...
