Very good! I like this a lot. Besides, I think most people can do most home repairs themselves. Or auto, or whatever. Certainly, we can educate our own children.

They failed to take into account that some homeowners might really, really care about their houses and would study up on different aspects to be able to take care of it. We're not talking about renters here, we're talking about people with some serious interest.
So it is with homeschooling. No one else is as interested in my child's well-being than I am. No school is going to teach the values I'd want them to have.
Great post! I love how you used their analogy against them.

Heather, Thanks! And thanks for posting to this article - It's been a while since I wrote it, but it's definitely one of my favorites! Reading it again reminds me why I homeschool in the first place!

Well, thank God we have the janitor to set us straight! Guess us bumpkins need to go back to minding our own business so the head custodian can get on with edumicating our kids!

One more thought, isn't this an obvious attempt on the part of the NEA to discredit home schooling while keeping themselves clear of the argument? This man is simply a pawn to further an agenda. He was clearly used and the NEA should be ashamed, but given what is taught in public schools, shame is probably not an emotion they are familiar with.

Nice analogy. I think I'd find a different builder, too.
