Your post is an inspiring tribute to a voice in the media that resonates with you. But (and I think this is a point of your post) it's also a depressing picture of how much junk you consume to find anything you consider worthwhile.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of different networks like PBS, NPR, PRI, or BBC; technology like podcasts; or time-shifting (TiVo/DVR) vs. live.

I rarely watch Imus, small doeses now and then I can handle (I bit the bullet and watched when he had Lewis Black on). I'll allow that he occasionally nails something beautifully though.

Anyhow, what I was going to say: Anderson Cooper on CNN gave the Center a full hour of in-depth coverage. I also didn't have to listen to any play-by-play dissection of the Hillary comment.

I will flip over and watch Hardball and I love Olberman but most of the rest on MSNBC is crap. CNN has crap (Lou Dobbs comes to mind) but Dobbs now has some fairly solid competition from Paula Zahn and her Intolerance in America series. You might want to take a peek.

The hour long specials by Amanpour, Cooper, and others also make CNN too good to dismiss. Besides I am hooked on Michael Ware, can't do without him.

I used to watch the news channels non-stop...even just for background noise. Now, I just turn the tv off or put NPR on. Sometimes I learn more from Stewart/Colbert than Fox/MSNBC/CNN combined.

So the kids tied you up? hmmmm...

I have to take Imus in small doses but when I started out in radio 22 years ago, he couldn't be beat.
The days before Rush owned the airwaves (blech.)
He was very real, a curmudgeon and has a style no one can imitate.
Abamson, are you sure your not related to the other guy?
And as for Dobbs, I can't even go there.
