I guess I would have been more encouraged if he managed to round up a couple more people than his mom and wife for the announcement. I think the reporter was the third person. Was there a photographer at the event?
You analysis may be correct...I certainly hope that it is...but color me skeptical at this point.
Pierce told me that it was meant to be an announcement/press conference, not a rally. He made his announcement at 10AM during the business day at the Golden Lamb to make it as convenient as possible for press to be there, and he only intended for the press to be there.
He says he could just as easily done a "rally" with supporters in the evening, but then he would have risked not having press coverage.
The Enquirer implicitly wrote it up as if the low numbers reflected a lack of connections, lack of invitations, or lack of response to invitations (and therefore a lack of any kind of support), when it was none of these. Sort of par for the course for the Fishwrap.
Of course you should be skeptical, and it is Pierce's very tough job to make us un-skeptical.
Fair points there, Tom...I'm not writing him off, I just hope we get a chance to get to know him and find out what he stands for...and hopefully, he's what we're looking for...
