Sounds ugly, as many divorces are, unfortunately. Matt, I have to agree that his behavior and actions speak directly to his character. The sympathetic regular media will ensure this story is unknown to most voters as they enter the booth on 7 November. Though to be honest, I'm not sure how many folks who would vote for him now knowing his positions would be put off if they knew his past violent against women.

Aren't child support payments over when the child turns 18 anyway? Or did he agree to something different in the original divorce decree?

Bush stumps for adulterer, candidate accused of slurs
By JENNIFER LOVEN, The Associated Press
LA PLUME, Pa. - President Bush campaigned Thursday for a congressman who has confessed to adultery and a senator accused of using racial slurs, seeking to boost incumbent Republicans once safe for re-election but now in peril.
++++++++++++++
Brown's situation is sooooo fair game.
I suspect that a few Dems are feeling nostalgic for Paul Hackett right about now.

When these accusations were raised in attack ads during Sherrod's first bid for Congress, Sherrod's ex-wife Larke asked his opponent to pull the ads. His opponent refused, and lost.
Larke and her husband are holding a fundraiser for Sherrod at their Granville home tonight (Friday, October 20, 2006). Sherrod will be there. Suggested contribution is $150.
Sherrod's daughter, Emily Brown, campaigns for him.

RussKC, I believe Matt is referring to facts that are in the historical record, not "accusations." The additional facts that Brown's wife said "back off" to Sherrod's opponent and that his daughter campaigns for him are useful bits of additional information, though not necessarily redemptive.
And I have to ask (esp in reference to the AP article I reference in a previous quote) -- If DeWine had a similar marital record that was brought up during his victorious first Congressional run, would you be giving him pass you apparently want to give to Brown?

Thomas-
Sherwood admitted to adultery. That's between him and his wife. He gets a pass from me.
Allen pointed at the cameraman and called him 'macaca'. Allen then lied and said he "just made up" the slur. He does NOT get a pass from me.
Sherrod's ex-wife made accusations of bad behavior. She now hosts fundraisers for him. He gets a pass from me.
If DeWine had a similar situation, yes he absolutely would get a pass from me.
It's just too bad that Republicans claim that they're the "party of values" (to distance themselves from Clinton), yet prove time and time again to be unable to practice what they preach.
We're all human. Most of us have skeletons in our closets.
George W. Bush is accused of using cocaine. Laura Bush killed someone by accident. If you can give them a pass, can you also give Sherrod a pass?

Your comparisons (still on the coke thing? a car accident? a supposed racial slur while the opponent has used them frequently?) are laughably inadequate and not worthy of further discussion.
Sherrod Brown v. Mike DeWine on character isn't even a contest, and no one who looks at it objectively can possibly conclude otherwise. All you can then say is "character doesn't matter," which is quite the non-admirable position to paint yourself into.

DeWine is a willing shill in Bush's rubber-stamp Congress. This speaks volumes about his character. None of it good.

Russ, Thank you for proving that you have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about... Do the words Gang of 14 or ANWR mean anything to you??? Rubber stamp...heh...that's a good one, Russ........

And Russ, Sherrod Brown is a rubber stamp for the lefty moonbats out there, and is to the left of people like Ted Kennedy, making him seem conservative. As is typical, you decide to give a slur, but then you have little to back it up. Are you, because you stay this course on dewine, nothing but a shill for lefty moonbats?

I don't agree with his politics, but I've met the man and his daughters. They're decent, genuine people. Your hatchet-job says more about your character than his.

RZ, these are facts, not a hatchet job. These records exist. I didn't make them up... I'm quite positive that Mr. Brown and his daughters are wonderful people. Heck, I might even enjoy a beer with them. But, that doesn't mean I can ignore the facts.

Mark: I see that your code phrase for "Reality-based person" is "Lefty moonbat". (Ted Kennedy ... BOO! Ha ha ha ha!)
Matt: Oooooh! DeWine showed non-partisanship twice. WOW!
Thomas: Macaca is a "supposed racial slur", just as the Moon is a "supposed celestial body". And I suppose the President was never "stay the course".
I mean, really - don't you guys have anything of substance? Republicans sure are "sore winners". "It's all Clinton's fault," you say. What happened to "the Party of Personal Responsibility"?

I'll let the other guys handle their own business...but I'll just go ahead and point out that DeWine's two issues are two more than Sherrod Brown..... Vote for Sherrod Brown if you want a rubber stamp for the far out fever swamp left that has hijacked the Democratic Party... If you want a moderate, you have to vote for DeWine. If you want a conservative, you're screwed, but vote DeWine becuase majorities matter...

I look forward to voting out of office all of the corrupt, incompetent, Republican leadership of Ohio. Dewine, who voted for the war in Iraq, is part of the problem and needs to go. No infantile smear of his opponent is going to change my vote, nor that of any other thinking Ohioan.

Check your facts, Matt: just in the past couple of months Sherrod voted to eliminate the Death Tax and he voted for the "Enemy Interrogation" law.
I, for one, welcome the "far out fever swamp left". At least their issues go beyond "abortion is evil", "gays shouldn't marry", "liberals want to cut-and-run", and "tax cuts benefit everyone".
When Democrats sweep Congress in 2 weeks, the Republicans will only be able to whine and clutch their money and bibles ... much like they've done for the past 12 years.

Well, Tippy, if that is your real name, you are certainly entitled...that is what is so great about America. We can all have our disagreements...that is...until you tick off a liberal and then suddenly that's "bad" and you just can't have that... The real party of ideas remains the GOP...

Matt,
There are plenty of storie about now-President Bush snorting his way through the 1970s. Can we honestly report on that one too>
Needless to say, if those allegations were as accurate as they are dramatic, why are his ex-wife and kids so actively supporting him?
