Matt, we had a great time at Party HQ last night as the returns came in. Although the presidential race was a bummer, on the local level we were quite happy except for the Evans/Romans race. I am still not sure what happened on that one, but on the whole our local party was engerized, engaged and worked extremely hard. I tip my hat to those many volunteers who gave hours and hours of their time and they are most appreciated. What lies ahead? One can only guess, but I am hopeful for the future.

Well, geez, at least one of you guys hasn't completely lost it and declared the Obama victory the rise of a new Hitler, and begun praying for the swift onset of the apocalypse.
Welcome into loyal opposition, we need good honest conservative Republicans to keep the Dems honest. Without you and millions like you, Dems will lurch too far to the left...

Matt- was this really Bob Bennett's election? On our side of aisle, we get the impression that Kevin DeWine is the de facto chairman of the party and that this entire period has been the transition between the two leading to this election.
To what extent do you believe this was really Kevin DeWine's first election as the de facto head of your party?
BTW, with the Ohio House going to the Democrats, how much does Husted's hording of his own campaign war chest for his Secretary of State race potentially cause him some problems in the party?

ME,
John Husted is an ass and I am glad he is gone. I hope people remember his manhugging teddyboy and his hoarding. I for one am going to challenge someone to run against him in a primary because he is a joke. Mods like him and his go along to get along b.s. helped ruin the gop.
As to you surfer, so you would call what your side has done the last 8 years "loyal" opposition? What the hell ever. BO is not my president. not now, not ever.
As to the allusion to Hitler and Lenin and Stalin and Mao, look at "the one's" own words: righteous wind (Mao), spreading the wealth (materialist collectivism), and his messianic tones remind me of a little paper hanger in austria...
As to the apocalypse, well, who knows? I think it hinges on what happens with Israel.
This election showed several things. It showed that moderate republicans lose. It shows what happens when you betray your core principles for votes. The dems haven't really hidden their agenda to a great deal, for anyone with above a 3rd grade vocabulary (but unfortunately, as per the electin results, it appears most don't even have that), and they won. Why did the repubs lose? They decided to sell their souls for pandering. Bob Bennett, bill kristol, buckley, martinez, all of them....take your big tent and get the hell out.

Matt, it is a further indiction that the State GOP has lost touch with the people. Moderates who try to win always struggle and conservatism as we know it may be dying a slow death until new leadership who embraces it properly arises out of the ashes. As you are aware by now, due to Husted and Bennett's and now Dewine, we have lost the Ohio House. I will be watching to see future developments but if we don't have some serious changes, our State GOP will continue to be ineffective and a joke.

If I were a committed partisan Democrat, I would hope fervently that Mark's thinking becomes dominant within the GOP. However, I can't, as an American, hope that one of our two main parties commits suicide.

ahhh, surfer, nice play, but you are incorrect. my thinking of getting out those who dilute the pool is exactly the right thing to do. Look at the dems. They purged people like Liebermann, and they got empty heads of mush who just want attention like Schuler, who will do whatever nancy says.....and now they are in control. If you don't stay true to principles you are going to lose. Ask Chris Shays, et.al.
