Weapons of Mass Discussion - TROLLS wll NOT be tolerated. Period.

Gravatar My bet is that he doesn't run again, or if he does, loses in the primary. Both are preferable, but I will NOT vote for Voinovich again! I will vote for a 3rd-party candidate or write in someone else.

Gravatar Joe, whereas I disagreed w/Dr. Dobson's directive (my comments are here http://massdiscussion.blogspot.c...-and-will.html) , but would point out in the interest of understanding each other vs. throwing stones, that his level of frustration about the Presidential candidates, seems very similar to yours regarding Voinovich...

"These people are irrational. The best they can hope for is that they are self-marginalized. If Repubs lose, they get the blame, and if they win, the Repubs say who needs ya.

They will have the blood of another 50 million babies on their hands for the next 2-3 generation because of their principled stand. They will have handed the evacuator to the abortionist as surely as if they worked at Planned Parenthood and voted for Hillary. And I for one, will remind them of it every time I hear them complain.

Gravatar RINOvich would still be preferable to another socialist... It would kill me to have to do it, but I would vote for him if it meant keeping the seat in the red column...

But there is absolutely no way I'm voting for him in the primary... I can only hope that there is but one alternative candidate and he or she isn't a total freak...

Gravatar I agree Matt...let's hope this fundraiser that Portman is giving George yields more than a thank you...

BTW, I was at the Columbus meeting where George spoke. IMHO, other than being 71 and to the left of some Dems I know, something was just not right with him...he needs to step down.

Gravatar There's a big difference in that 1 old RINO senator in 2010 probably isn't going to make a difference, whereas who is president in '08 will change history. However, you're right, I see the irony, Rose. OK, I know when I'm wrong. I'll vote for him in the general in 2010, so I assume you and Dr. Dobson will vote for the Republican presidential nominee - whoever it is - in '08. Thanks. If you are not, then you are dishonest and an abortion enabler.

Gravatar Joe, why the tone of disdain...I provided the link to my Dobson comments. Here they are again:

http://massdiscussion.blogspot.c...-and-will.html)

Did I prognosticate your betrayal should a conservative win the primary, then name call? No.

Having that said, you cannot "shock" or guilt me into voting for or against anyone. As I said, I take orders from one man, and one man only...you may know Him and if you don't, you have a lot more problems than who wins next year.

The sole intent of my post was to establish common ground so that 1) communication lines don't break down and the common goal - which after the primary will be to win the general - does not get lost in blame or vitriol.

Gravatar Your link was 404. I apologize for my tone. My argument (and tone) is regarding those that adopt Dr. Dobson's position of enabling 2-3 more generations of the abortion holocaust if a Republican nominee isn't personally anti-abortion. If you don't adhere to that irrational strategy, then I apologize. However, my analysis of the electoral situation stands - as rhetorically unpleasant as it may be.

Gravatar Joe, you'd be [pleasantly] surprised at how many Evangelicals don't subscribe to that philosophy. This doesn't mean we don't have convictions, but rather are realisstic in our expectations.

The emails I received from the "Christian right" expressing their disagreement with Dr. Dobson would blow you away. This doesn't mean we don't appreciate and respect his authority and effectiveness with the Focus on the Family ministry.

Our job will be to reach out to those who do subscribe to that hard line when they're so used to voting for the lesser of two evils...and yet we know that should a solid conservative surface, moderates will stay home and not get a bit of blame.

The base gets dissed until the 72-hour GOTV crunch-time. Then they get blamed...unless the R's win of course. In 2004, the "almighty independents" were given credit for GW's win. Most of us smiled, knowing full well who got knocked on those independents' doors, called their houses and got them up off their couches and to the polls.

I don't blame the base for wanting it all...but I also know that they understand that until "The Man" comes back, that's an unrealistic expectation. What won't help is a persecuting them for losing the 2008 election even b/f any candidate has fully organized. Food for thought.

I'll post my original comments so you can take a look.

Gravatar From the original post...

Joe, Gary, I take offense.

I am "the Christian right," and make no mistake, I serve one man and one man only (1 Tim 2:5).

No [real] Christian blindly follows anyone or anything of this world. It is thru the Word, prayer & supplication that we determine what God would have us do (Phil 4:6-7), NOT what Dr. Dobson or Janet Folger would have us do. They are being prideful, remiss and will divide "their house" over this b/c those actions are completely incongruent w/the principles of Christianity.

I wrote a letter to Dr. Dobson outlining this and vehemently disagreeing with this "extorting the vote" fodder. It stated what Joe inferred, that doing so will make our voting block obsolete and forever lose our seat at the table b/c secular R's will find a way to win w/o us. Probably by moving more towards the left...making moot the progress we have made. Matt/Mark, if you'd like to see it, let me know.

I understand the frustration on both sides of this, believe me, but responses like yours only work to keep our block home. We must explain the huge steps we have taken(esp. since Alito & Roberts took their seats on the bench).

Just my opinion.
