Scrapiron,
Voinovich may be incompetent, and incapable of exercizing good judgment. However, he is not a traitor. That is a serious charge and should be applied only to those actively and with malice aforethought working to harm our nation. We do have politicians like that but Voinovich isn't one of them. He is a serious guy who takes himself too seriously and is no longer capable of doing the job he elected to do.
Matt,
Great post. Definitely a keeper. George Voinovich has been an embarrassment the last few years. I'd say with confidence that we can do better, but last cycle we elected Brown and Strickland. So, . . . while I think we should be able to do better, who knows if a candidate espousing responsible government spending and stalwart could win the vote in this state anymore.

One of the problems I see in Voinovich as well as the entire ORP is that they are more concerned with being politicians and politics, where as in the past at least our republican politicians were, yes, politicians, but they had some inkling of federalism and republicanism.
Ohio will not be right until “WE,” the voters, hold their feet to the fire. We have to be relentless when in comes to republicanism, conservatism, liberty, and limited government.

Vote Voinovich...he's better than whatever socialist the Ohio Democrats will put up...
That slogan is the only way I'll hold my nose and vote for him in another general election...
My hope is that there will be an organized effort to either convice RINOvich to retire or mount a primary campaign to retire him. We need a candidate...

Matt,
What about Portman?

Portman is doing fundraisers for Voinovich...doesn't sound to me like he's all that in to it...
I'd have to take another look at Portman's record to determine whether or not I'd support him, but it wouldn't take much for me to support him against Voinovich.
The Schmidt haters on the right always like to put Portman up on a pedestal, but I have come to question what those folks think about just about every issue or candidate. Slash and burn tactics coupled with idol-worshipping of former politicians are just the start of my list of their offenses...but that wouldn't efect my evaluation of Portman or his record.
Generally speaking, I'd have to say that I would support Portman if he were to run...
