I was incredibly annoyed by NPR's coverage this morning. Especially since the reporter kept saying "daring recovery" over and over again. I'm happy the hostages were freed and all--don't get me wrong--but the coverage has me flashing back to Jessica Lynch.

Everyone loves an action movie. Especially in the summer.

I read the USA TODAY every morning during the week at the hotel where I stay. I read the entire article and did not see anywhere that they said that McCain had anything to do with the rescue. They said it was a coincidence. If Obama had been there, the paper would have had him in the headlines. My concern is not about who is responsible for rescuing them. I am just thankful that they are free at last and do not have to endure any more torture at the hands of the FARC.

That's the point, Jerry. McCain had nothing to do with the rescue. He had nothing to do with getting the hostages out, yet he's mentioned in the headline?

That makes no sense if you believe the headline is supposed to convey what the story is about.

I read this paper as well. A couple other things that bothered me about it is that is was an edition that would be on newstands for 4 days since it was a holiday weekend.

The other thing that bothered me is that on other side of the front page (it's cropped in the image shown) they mention Obama. I don't recall exactly what the headline was but it was something about the Oboma campaign being in trouble about something. The layout of the front page seems clearly biased.

Additionally, NPR had a follow up to the story on Friday morning in which they said that McCain was briefed about the situation before he went on the trip so he was aware that the mission was going to happen. It seems to me the timing of the trip was planned for this event. If it was successful he could hope to be mentioned as being present. If it failed he could write it off as a coincidence.
