Congratulations, Marjorie - we are proud of you, and the NMI is so lucky to have you!!!

This is well earned. It's always fascinating...or sometimes bewildering...to wonder just who is reading what and the conclusions from it.

I'd add that being included in this venture is in no small part because you three have held the line on what you've wanted to accomplish on m-pyre for quite a spell now.

By not trying to be everything for everyone, the "voice" here is pure and compelling.

Whether you're being told it or not, m-pyre has earned a very special place here. I would vote that not being included in a weekly papers popularity contest in fact was a huge vote of approval.

Even better, find me one of those winning bloggers on NMI.

That a new set of eyes will get to enjoy the head knocks we've become accustomed to here is a sweeter victory by a wide stretch.

Bravo!

So cool. A true victory for NM's communities. Keep on asking who pays and who benefits! They are, as Maggie said, lucky to have you.

Some quotes as you continue your journey as a storyteller.

"Writers imagine that they cull stories from the world. I'm beginning to believe that vanity makes them think so. That it's actually the other way around. Stories cull writers from the world. Stories reveal themselves to us. The public narrative, the private narrative - they colonize us. They commission us. They insist on being told..." Arundhati Roy

"Whoever controls the flow of information dictates our perceptions and perspectives; Whoever controls the news, shapes our destiny." George Clinton

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have
you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing. " Malcolm X

"The power to communicate and, therefore, the power to transform belongs to everyone." CMJ

Thanks for the props guys, and those quotes...they rock! love them.

Congrats Marjorie! I know you'll do a great job over at the new Independent. I've been meaning to cover this but, as usual, I'm still catching up on many things so maybe I'll just link to your story. Ah, the blogger's easy way out!

I think there's a real need for another newspaper-like outlet here, especially since the Trib left the scene. The Journal just doesn't cut it, plus we need a truly statewide purveyor of the news.

I think you're perfect for the position, given your essentially non-party progressivism. I considered applying myself but decided to stick to progressive and party activism and advocacy. Very different from journalism, as anyone knows who reads my blog. We need the whole spectrum in NM and the blog community has certainly grown and diversified over the last few years. The Independent will certainly be a welcome addition. And more to come, I'm sure!

Also great that Matt at FBIHOP is on board at the Independent. A strong young voice on the poitical scene. Rah.

Exciting developments indeed.

During today's taping I got to ask David a couple of questions about this project. Best yet, I got to say. Out loud. For the first time. Ever. The Name:

"Marjorie Childress."

Feels good on the tongue.

However. The guys in the booth kept having technical problems and we had to do it three times, so I'm not entirely sure my Waxing Poetic On Marjorie, the Name In Passing Marjorie, or the One Of My Favorite Bloggers Is Marjorie, version will air.

See fo' yo' self's Friday night/Sunday morning. The rest will have to catch it on line.

Gene, you are too good to me. I'm a big fan of yours also.
