Interesting...
Chet Edwards Said to Be On Short List
The Associated Press reports that Sen. Barack Obama "is hours away from naming his running mate, as little-known Texas congressman Chet Edwards is emerging as a finalist."
"Democratic officials say that Edwards was one of the few Democrats whose background was checked by Obama's campaign, and he was a finalist for the job."
And a "few hours away" puts ME on a plane during the announcement... Dammit!!

I can not even imagine the Dem's picking a Texan. The state is surely to go R. But, given that Edwards has held on the way he has despite that redistricting that furthered the R take over of the state, maybe the D's are taking the long view of Texas...

If McCain doesn't know how many houses he owns, or where he lives, does he know where to vote?

My favorite 'how many houses' analysis is here.
This morning a report said that Kaine doesn't have a poker face, and his friends could tell he was upset/disappointed yesterday, and that Biden's family is gathering after all. Speculation is pretty fun, though, down to the wire like this.

I haven't followed this because really if it's not hillary, it's just going to be the biggest mistake obama has made, yet.
I'm so disappointed she's not even on the short list.
It just goes back to the ingrained sexism we see too often. Sorry to say, but it really doesn't matter at this point. The Real Change would have been to pick HC.

LOL anonymous...
I would not quit on the houses gaffe all the way til nov. It's truly a defining moment.
The vp stuff is...yawn...boring. No doubt who ever it is will not live up to all the hype.
And if you're gonna' do the text thing, do it fast. Don't fucking let it out a week out and then not say shit. Brilliant on the idea for data, but way too fucking slow on the implementation. People want instant gratification.

I agree, Joann. Regardless of what many might think of Hillary, et al, its a touch out of touch to think the enormous numbers of Democrats who voted for her straight up through June don't warrant her name being prominent in the short list. Who knows? Maybe in the end they just really think it has to be a white guy.

LOL, Joann.
She's the only one that can live up to the hype surrounding the VP, I suppose.
Yet Hillary is too macho, and she's not "change" in any sense of the word.
And where is McCain sleeping tonight? Anyone know?

No She Won't! No She Won't!
Finally getting to Politico, and the last to see:
“She was never vetted,” a Democratic official reported. “She was not asked for a single piece of paper. She and Senator Obama have never had a single conversation about it. How would he know if she’d take it?”
The official also said Clinton never met with Obama’s vetting team of Eric Holder and Caroline Kennedy."
Three cheers for Big Fat Male Ego, ya'll.
I agree with anyone else that there's roughly 13 million reasons to choose HRC. Outside of Biden (who David Brooks made a pretty good case for today), the rest of the list is, as Karlos says, a freaking snore.

No one here has said anything about Michael Moore's idea that an Obama/Kennedy sticker would look good on cars.

I think you folks that push for HRC underestimate two things... 1, she was in prime position to get the veep spot if she was willing to settle for it, and when she wasn't she shot herself in the foot a half-dozen times, came off as incredibly selfish to the point of delusion, and created a ton of ill will with Obama and throughout the party. 2, her negatives are sky high...i mean there a huge swaths of this country that really, really, REALLY don't like her. putting her on the ticket rallies the right in a way that john mccain can only dream to on his own.

Biden. Cool enough. BUT, I think Obama made a big, big mistake not even going through the motions with HRC. If i was a supporter of hers...ouch.
