What did this part mean: "The U.S. government needs to ferret these people out"?
It means it shouldn't be viewed as an isolated action of a lone extremist, without substantial investigation first at least.
There are 2 things I've heard and am thinking about in reaction to the murder:
1. was a commentator comparing the exceptionalism of the govt./mainstream media reaction to anti-abortion terrorism vs. a murder of a bank president, let's say. A concerted effort by a network of groups to target banks all over the country would be a national crisis. When it's an abortion clinic and abortion doctors? Oh, it's just the work of isolated extremists.
2. The FBI's top targets for domestic terrorism are ecoterrorists, who mostly cause economic mayhem from vandalism, versus terrorizing doctors and women like anti-abortion groups. This seems absolutely insane to me.
