Congrats on this one, Marj... you are the Queen of (Ebay) Capitalism!

HA!!! Just thought I would remind you about that heated "how capitalist is ebay?" dinner debate that night.

well, as ever, I hate to let it go. It really is a special quilt. As to being the queen of capitalism, I would have to own the means of production for that to be the case...which I clearly do not.

So middle-men aren't capitalist?

What are they?

I'm curious, and I know you've got this analysis DOWN!

I think a lot of wine is necessary for the analysis to really flow in a group setting, fyi...

Can we pause for a moment and reflect on how bad-ass the quilt is?

A lot of wine is only necessary when Erik and I are on this subject.

As to capitalism, thats a big question and the answer is debatable. You could go with Weberian concepts that engaging in markets makes you a capitalist per se, even if all you're selling is your labor. Or you could go with Marx who distinguished capitalists within a capitalist system--as those who took one thing, added to it or changed it, making it different and (hopefully) increasing its value. From this perspective, I am not a capitalist, but do operate in a market within a capitalist system. There's an argument that I change these quilts by the fact that I change how people perceive them, but that gets us into an intangible area...

I'm about to go to the airport, so don't have time for a more indepth answer. I'll get back to this when I can!

Marjorie, these customers are buying the "whole package" and that means they are buying a little piece of you that goes along with this quilt....you have a love and respect for your quilts and this comes across in your listings which in turn makes them worth sooooo much! Capitalism is so much fun, especially on Ebay!

Thank you Susan--you always get me! You all should see the other four...this was one of five from the same quiltmaker. I kept one, and let the others go--all to the same person. I've been watching her amass her collection for a couple of years now--she's serious, and quite systematic about it.
